Love is the Theme of Pride
Erine Sedicum writes on June 17, 2013
after her day at Baltimore Pride Festival
 | | Baltimore Pride Festival 2013 |
Love is the theme of Pride. It's funny how at Pride I don't care about my malfunctions, quirks, or place in life. I enjoy the open energy...the love of self...it isn't vain...it's real. In my day-to-day life I forget that...it gets lost in working, paying bills, living, and drama. I wish people could see that LOVE is very simple, and with a little effort this Planet Earth could be better if they could open their hearts to a world that is round and not square. Perhaps if we share LOVE more hearts will change...Perhaps...Perhaps...Perhaps...

My notes from Pastor Wayne's Reflection on:
Last Sunday's reading from Luke 7:36-50 is about the woman who bathed Jesus' feet with her tears and dried them with her hair while he sat at table to share a meal with his friends. Standing behind him, she then continued to kiss his feet and anoint them with ointment. The important point in this reading is not so much the story within the story of someone loving more than another because of his higher debt being cancelled. That's not love. What's important is this: one human woman's devotion to one human man, Jesus.
So, the woman in the story is a known sinner, probably a prostitute, a person of no social standing--a "nobody." She sees Jesus and is moved by him...his warmth, his kindness. He is utterly approachable, welcoming, compassionate, non- judgmental, and sees the best in us. And by her gesture, this disreputable woman becomes the heroine of the story, as it was she who was hospitable while the host was not. Maybe she was a devoted disciple of Jesus whose life had been changed by him. At any rate, she fully embraces Jesus' presence, and she invites us to cast off all that would hold us back and do the same. To embrace that which touches our hearts.
We often get caught up with our mundane, day-to-day life and lose our reason for being. We need to remind ourselves why we love and what it is we are devoted to. What are the gifts we bring to each other? What are we doing with each other?
Twenty couples were married today by the Mayor at Baltimore Pride Festival. These couples overflowed with tears, love, and feelings for one another during this holy moment in Druid Hill Park. So many had worked hard for such a long time for this moment! They were celebrating the love in their life, celebrating a human relationship, a connection between two people. It was about love, commitment, and devotion.
Nurture that to which we are devoted! The people we love, the wild things of creation, God...! The covenant we have in this community needs to be honored and remembered as we journey together. This takes work. What we're doing is manifesting the Divine in our lives and celebrating it here, in this place.

Being in process is an attitude--an appreciation of this simple truth and of the reality that your life will be forever unfolding and your future always unknown. . . . . . Seeing yourself as "in process" will help you increase your level of simple moment-to-moment contentment and your appreciation of your very own gift of life. ~ from Taming Your Gremlin by Rick Carson

My Symphony
by William Henry Channing; photo by Rick Dove
To live content with small means ~ to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion ~ to be worthy, not respectable and wealthy, not rich ~ to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly ~ to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart ~ to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never ~ in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common ~ this is to be my symphony.
