"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

Christ Path

The Two Goals of a Healthy Community: Becoming Mystics, Becoming Prophets

Matthew Fox writes on June 10, 2013 about
the ChristPath Seminar

As we open our conversation here on Patheos, I want to talk concretely about those who are in communities, whether those communities be parishes or base communities that you're starting up, or whether you're just waiting for an inspiration about what really will be your connection. I want to ask the questions: What is a parish? What is a caring community? What does a community do for us, what do we do for the community?

I say there are two things involved in any healthy community. First, it produces lovers--it turns on the mystic or the Cosmic Christ in every person. That's what a healthy community in the spirit of the Christ Path is doing. Secondly, it produces prophets--that is to say, spiritual warriors. The mystic says yes, the prophet says no. The prophet, as Rabbi Heschel says, interferes with that which is interfering with the glory, the sacredness of life-that which is crucifying the Christ all over again.

And we have to get over this idea that only Jesus died on the cross. Rainforests are dying on the cross, polar bears are dying on the cross. You know, let's get into 2013. All the sins of the world did not happen at the hands of the Roman Empire two thousand years ago. There's a lot happening at the hands of the Wall Street empire, the American empire, and other empires of our day.

.....We're the first species in four and a half billion years of this planet that can choose not to go extinct. Of course, we haven't made that choice yet. For me, this Christ Path movement is about making that choice. If the word Christ carries still too much baggage, then you can call it Cosmic Wisdom.

An Invitation from the Islamic Society of Annapolis

Evolve Chesapeake Companions are cordially invited to attend one of two iftars with our Moslem community during their holy season of Ramadan.  Each iftar (breaking of the fast) will begin at 8:15 pm at the Mekkah Learning Center, 814 Brandy Farms Lane, Gambrills.  See our Sunday Bulletin for more details, and contact Martha Scott at zakiyyams@verizon.net no later than July8 if you would like to attend one.
EVOLVE CHESAPEAKE WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP

Please note:  During the Summer months of July and August, we will meet only on the 1st Tuesdays.

Our next meeting will be JULY 2 AT 7 PM at Kathy Baker's home in Edgewater.  Our focus is on ways of connecting to the Divine.  Each meeting several topics about spirituality and women are discussed, and a different form of meditation is shared in order to learn about it and try it out.

These are very affirming and enriching meetings.  If you would like to join the group,  please email Kathy Baker at k3b@comcast.net.

Erine
Scream...

I WANT TO SCREAM
I WANT TO RUN
I WANT TO ESCAPE
these bars hold me in
and I can't hold my cool...
I NEED TO SCREAM
I NEED TO RUN
I NEED TO ESCAPE
I see the mountains
and I want to climb them
I see the flowers
and I want to enjoy them
BUT REAL LIFE
BUT REAL LIFE
closes in on you
and you lose something within yourself
SO I SCREAMED
SO I RAN (if only in my head)
SO I ESCAPED (if only for a moment)
Here I am
Still Mad as a Hatter
But I know whatever
HAPPENS
HAPPENS
HAPPENS
and I will be better for it...
I will be stronger
I WILL ROAR!

A POEM FOR FATHERS' DAY

the best man
                           by Christina Borgoyn

Father, sun, rising from the east, setting

in the west, husband, lover, man, boy,

child, we all learn the purpose we have

felt for a lifetime rising steadily within

our hearts, strong-willed, the bones may

crack and bend, for they are not reinforced

with the steel that stands strong in building

so high that we remember just as easily,

it is sacrifice, I find, a simple word to fall

onto this tongue that lets itself loose from

these lips, shapes form and catches in the wind,

ignites with fire and passion, the compassion

burning itself into the most gorgeous flame

that encompasses the human heart beating,

pulsating, radiating with its own internal inferno,

a love that cannot separate, that easily forgoes

forever as if the electricity in us is endless.
