HARVEY MILK: HE LEFT US A LEGACY
Many thanks to Tony Teano for his great presentation on Harvey Milk last Sunday. Below are some photos from his talk. Milk was the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the United States. He served on San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977. The following is an excerpt from his famous "Hope Speech:"
 | | Harvey Milk |
"And the young gay people in the Altoona, Pennsylvanias and the Richmond, Minnesotas who are coming out and hear Anita Bryant on television and her story. The only thing they have to look forward to is hope. And you have to give them hope. Hope for a better world, hope for a better tomorrow, hope for a better place to come to if the pressures at home are too great. Hope that all will be all right. Without hope, not only gays, but the blacks, the seniors, the handicapped, the us'es, the us'es will give up. And if you help elect to the central committee and other offices, more gay people, that gives a green light to all who feel disenfranchised, a green light to move forward. It means hope to a nation that has given up, because if a gay person makes it, the doors are open to everyone."

From ProgressiveChristianity.org
God is all without being any thing
while being the all in every thing.
God is the perhaps at the edge
of every moment of choosing.
God does nothing
but nothing does
without God.
God is the freedom to do
and the urge to act.
God does not exist
because God is existence.
God is change,
God is flow,
God is relationship:
In, with, and through.
God is love:
silently attracting,
never compelling.
God does not have power
because God is power.
God is the unforced force
coursing through all events.
God is the potential
for transformation
in all relationships.
To be God's friend
is to pay attention
to the flow in all things...
even those that seem to stay still.
It is to savor what is behind and within
all appearances, events, relations.
It is to feel the allure of what could be,
latent in the wonder of what is.

Last Call for Dinner and a Show
June 13, 2013
Join Evolve Chesapeake at Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, MD for a performance of In the Heights, the 2008 Tony Award winning musical, set in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood. A place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythms from three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.
What could be better than a great dinner and show in the company of your friends? Knowing that you're helping out Evolve Chesapeake with the purchase of your ticket!
The show date is THURSDAY, JUNE 13. Tickets are $51.00. The cost of the ticket includes the show, dinner, coffee/tea, taxes and gratuity. A cash bar is available. And speaking from experience, there isn't a bad seat in the house.
Why not get a group of your friends together and join us for the show?
For details, call or email Beth Lanier and let her know you're interested. 410-610-2327 EvolveBeth@gmail.com
Checks may be made payable to Evolve Chesapeake. Send payment to Evolve Chesapeake, PO Box 6159, Annapolis, MD 21401. Online payments may be available in the near future for a small processing fee.
