Erine's Solo Tree #1 Erine's solo tree #2

On Wednesday , April 10, 2013 at 11:25 p.m., Erine Sedicum wrote:

Erine's solo tree #3 When I started Cape St Claire Elementary last August, I saw this tree, this solo tree, and I fell in love with it.  I have taken pictures of it in the early morning, in the fog, in pouring rain, in the cold and the warmth, and its parts.  Near it is a pair of the same tree but I have no interest in them, just this one.  It appears to be alone or solo, but there it sits and watches the World below from the top of the hill.  I don't see that...I see me.   Although I let people in and share my life, I like the solo moments when it is only me.  That tree is me and I smile when I see it, and I'm grateful, as that tree has moments when children sit under it and connect, adults park in front of it, and it shares its tree being with the World.  I love my solo tree....

Dinner and a Show

 June 13, 2013

The Heights Join Evolve Chesapeake at Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, MD for a performance of In the Heights, the 2008 Tony Award winning musical, set in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood. A place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythms from three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

What could be better than a great dinner and show in the company of your friends? Knowing that you're helping out Evolve Chesapeake with the purchase of your ticket!

The show date is Thursday, June 13. Tickets are $51.00. The cost of the ticket includes the show, dinner, coffee/tea, taxes and gratuity. A cash bar is available. And speaking from experience, there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Why not get a group of your friends together and join us for the show?

For details, call or email Beth Lanier and let her know you're interested.    410-610-2327   EvolveBeth@gmail.com

Checks may be made payable to Evolve Chesapeake.  Send payment to Evolve Chesapeake, PO Box 6159, Annapolis, MD 21401.  Online payments may be available in the near future for a small processing fee.

Flower Power
Evolve Chesapeake has partnered with Flower Power Fundraising for this season's fundraiser.  Flower Power offers top-quality flower bulbs for our friends and family members to purchase.  All orders ship directly to our customers' homes and come with a 100% money-back guarantee.

Here's how the program works:

We've created a special web page, dedicated to our organization. The page features specific information about our group and explains how supporters can help us achieve our fundraising goals by purchasing flower bulbs and plants directly from Flower Power.

For every purchase made Evolve Chesapeake receives 50% of the sale price which counts toward our fundraising goal.

Now here's where you come in!

Automatically invite friends and family members to buy from our fundraiser.  Also post your fundraising message on Facebook in just minutes.  Please click on the following link: http://www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/campaign?q=campaign&campaign_id=15026

This campaign ends April 26, 2013.  Our success is up to you!

       Food Bank Collection
Help those in need by bringing to our Sunday gathering, an item or two for the local food bank when you can.  Most welcome are  pantry staples (tinned meat and fish, boxed pasta products, infant formula, etc.) and personal care products such as laundry detergent, toilet paper, disposable razors, bath/shower soap, deodorant, dish soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.  Collection is ongoing every Sunday.

Women's Spirituality Group Meeting on April 30

We are meeting at 7 pm every other Tuesday at Kathy Baker's home in Edgewater.  Our focus is on ways of connecting to the divine.  Each meeting, several topics about spirituality and women are discussed, and a different form of meditation is shared in order to learn about it and try it out.

At our last meeting we practiced a "loving-kindness" meditation, and Kathy led us in a wonderful sharing about death.  If you would like to join the group,  please email Kathy Baker at

k3b@comcast.net.

Eat Pray Love
EVOLVE CHESAPEAKE BOOK GROUP

MAY 18

NOTE NEW TIME:
10 - 11:30 am

We are reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, and will meet on May 18th fr0m 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the Barnes and Noble Cafe, Harbor Place.  This is a lively group and there is still time to join.  We will continue discussing the "Pray" section in India and move into the "Love" in Indonesia.  Books are readily available if you need a copy.  Contact Pastor Wayne at SchwandtW@aol.com.

The following from the "Pray" section particularly spoke to us:

If we truly knew all the answers in advance as to the meaning of life and the nature of God and the destiny of our souls, our belief would not be a leap of faith and it would not be a courageous act of humanity; it would just be . . . a prudent insurance policy.
I'm not interested in the insurance industry.  I'm tired of being a skeptic, I'm irritated by spiritual prudence and I feel bored and parched by empirical debate.  I don't want to hear it anymore.  I couldn't care less about evidence and proof and assurances.  I just want God.  I want God inside me.  I want God to play in my bloodstream the way sunlight amuses itself on water.

From
Waking Up to your World
by Pema Chodron

Pause practice can transform each day of your life.  It creates an open doorway to the sacredness of the place in which you find yourself.  The vastness, stillness, and magic of the place will dawn upon you, if you let your mind relax and drop for just a few breaths the storyline you are working so hard to maintain.  If you pause just long enough, you can reconnect with exactly where you are, with the immediacy of your experience. ....Stop and take three conscious breaths. ....Punctuate, create gaps.  As soon as you do, you realize how big the sky is, how big your mind is.
