Unrolling the scroll, Jesus found the place where it is written: "He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor; He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives; And recovering of sight to the blind; To set at liberty those who are oppressed, To proclaim the acceptable year of Yaheweh."          ~ Luke 4:17-19

Jesus and Politics in His Time and Ours

Jesus Seminar on the Road

April 5-6, 2013, St. Mark's Episcopal Church,

Washington DC

JSOR

Early Christianity turned Jesus into a divine Savior who demanded worship. The historical Jesus, however, talked about the Kingdom of God, not about himself.  Jesus did more than simply talk about the Kingdom.  He lived and invited others to live this radical vision of human life under God's rule--not in the afterlife, but in the here-and-now.  For nineteen centuries, Christianity has ignored the Kingdom of God as a present possibility.  Should we pay attention to the Kingdom of God today?  Does it have any relevance for modern faith and culture?

Dinner and a Show

 June 13, 2013

The Heights Join Evolve Chesapeake at Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, MD for a performance of In the Heights, the 2008 Tony Award winning musical, set in New York City's Washington Heights neighborhood. A place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythms from three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

What could be better than a great dinner and show in the company of your friends? Knowing that you're helping out Evolve Chesapeake with the purchase of your ticket!

The show date is Thursday, June 13. Tickets are $51.00. The cost of the ticket includes the show, dinner, coffee/tea, taxes and gratuity. A cash bar is available. And speaking from experience, there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Why not get a group of your friends together and join us for the show?

For details, call or email Beth Lanier and let her know you're interested.    410-610-2327   EvolveBeth@gmail.com

Checks may be made payable to Evolve Chesapeake.  Send payment to Evolve Chesapeake, PO Box 6159, Annapolis, MD 21401.  Online payments may be available in the near future for a small processing fee.

Here's how the program works:

We've created a special web page, dedicated to our organization. The page features specific information about our group and explains how supporters can help us achieve our fundraising goals by purchasing flower bulbs and plants directly from Flower Power.

For every purchase made Evolve Chesapeake receives 50% of the sale price which counts toward our fundraising goal.

Now here's where you come in!

Women's Spirituality Group Meeting April 16

We are meeting at 7 pm every other Tuesday at Kathy Baker's home in Edgewater.  Our focus is on ways of connecting to the divine.  Each meeting, several topics about spirituality and women are discussed, and a different form of meditation is shared in order to learn about it and try it out.

At our last meeting we discussed how colors affect us in many ways, and Kathy led us in a wonderful guided imagery meditation.

If you would like to join the group,  please email Kathy Baker at

k3b@comcast.net

wrote the following:

I spent most of life learning from my parents to control my emotions. Crying in public is one thing I find difficult to do even with good friends.  On the retreat, when the pain was cutting through me like a knife...I tried with all I had to keep it quiet and yet I couldn't quiet it enough.  I don't like people seeing me cry...emotion was something not really expressed in my house unless it was raised voices and slamming doors and sometimes laughter.  So to see in the book, "Do not apologize for crying," it was nice as I recently feel free to cry.  I feel free to express raw emotions that I would hide.  I'm thankful that we are not robots, as he [Giovanni] continued on.

In this community, I'm reminded we are not robots but family, and for that I am grateful.  I'm thankful I can feel and live here.  Without Evolve my life would be just existing.  I love ya all and I'm glad I have permission to cry...for good, trying, exciting, and a good tissue movie.
