Reading Group Our next meeting will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd at PANERA in Festival at Riva. We are reading the last two Parts of Re-Claiming the Bible for a Non- Religious World by John Shelby Spong. With this we will have finished the book and will look for a new one. So far, three titles have been proposed: Help, Thanks, Wow by Ann Lamont, The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, and Original Blessing by Matthew Fox. We hope more Companions will join us in our meetings and we invite you to help us choose our next book. If there are other titles of interest to you, let us know. Remember, besides being an interesting learning experience, our book group is also a great opportunity simply to be together! Contact Pastor Wayne at SchwandtW@aol.com. |

From Erine Sedicum:
Feedback from Pastor Wayne's Reflection, "A More Excellent Way" of last Sunday, January 27th
I have always been better at words than talking. I will admit direct one-on-one contact is still difficult but much, much better. I preferred the camera over talking, as my photograph did the words, so these words that are coming are challenging to type but must be said...must be said. I keep processing the reflection from the January 27th service and it felt like Wayne punched me in my gut. It was far from a soft punch and, YES, it left a bruise. I hated almost everything about me until 40 and I was only my parts. I was the writer, photographer, long naturally curly brown hair, and had a pretty face but would be prettier if I lost weight. At the time, I attended Severna Park EP and they had a Women's Group doing a book called "Released From Shame." I learned that I can't blame myself for my past experiences and carry them alone or along. My first coming taste of real wholeness had started. The next step was not so easy as I faced the feelings, experiences, and reactions I long ran from. We had an assignment to put down (write) our losses and gains. I was surprised by what I wrote and I wish I could find it now, perhaps redo it. The surprise was I saw ME differently after this, and by 42 I knew I was different. I faced my identity and I discovered I liked the connection with both genders, but it was an emotional struggle. I believe then I faced the long overdue low self-esteem battle, and it was and still is painful...an everyday battle. It was by chance I walked into MCCC-now Evolve Chesapeake--and stayed. I changed my perceived self inside and out. Today, I am still plus size, challenged by one-on-one communication, and hard to place. I have learned through each of Wayne's reflections, plus fellow companions and reading materials, to see myself as anything but parts of me. Each part of me has played a part into the whole me... regardless of negative or positive. I am all me and at times I get on my own nerves...so ALL MY PARTS are really cool despite --- despite me ---really despite ME!!! (Gotta have a little fun!)

 | | Greenwood State Park |
Our INvent-Co- Create Season has set the tone for our weekend
retreat in beautiful Greenwood State Park. We will come together from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10 early afternoon to explore and share about our spiritual paths, the efforts that enrich us, and those practices that diminish our awareness of our own holiness. It's going to be a great opportunity to help us continue evolving together towards the deep dreams and big hopes we have for our future, and we hope everyone can come. Cost of the weekend for lodging, food and materials is $125 per person and can be paid in install- ments so long as balance is paid before retreat weekend.

 The Marching Band by Dairíne
For the longest time now I've tried to march to my own drum,
Attempted to make music
From a lonely bumbumbum.
The sound was very timid
Most days I forgot to play,
And there were even moments I thought,
"Sure I'll throw this drum away..."
Until I met a wise man, he
knowing more than I could understand
who said "Pick up your own drum there
and join the marching band."
And in this band I found a sound
I'd never heard before -
the harmony of playing with
a hundred drummers more.
The peace of hearing a friend's song
On days I forgot to sing,
the joy of finding music
in everyone and everything.
And I can keep my own tip tap
Still hear my bumbumbums,
But oh! the strength, the power, the love
of a hundred thousand drums! |
