From: Wayne Schwandt schwandtw@aol.com
Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2013
Subject: Death of Cy Hosley
Companions,
I am sad to share with you that our Companion Cy died yesterday, January 8, 2013, morning. He was a presence of laughter in our community as he shared his jokes and stories. We have missed him in our Sacred Gatherings over the past few months as he was unable to manage the travel from Manresa to the Annapolis Friends Meetinghouse.
The family will receive friends during Visitation at the Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, Maryland 20736, on Friday, January 11, from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral will be held at the Funeral Home at 11 AM on Saturday, January 12. I am officiating at the Funeral on Saturday.
An obituary and directions to the Funeral Home can be read at the Rausch Funeral Home website by clicking here:
http://www.rauschfuneralhomes.com/service-detail-page/?ServiceToolId=376.
As is our community's tradition, we will add a panel to the Covenant Candle/Window to honor Cy's life and participation in our community. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor either by designating the General Fund or Building Fund. The family has also designated The National Parkinson Foundation as a recipient of memorial gifts (information on that is on the funeral home webpage above).
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Celebrate Your Life Today!
Peace, Pastor Wayne Schwandt

Reading Group The next meeting of our Reading Group will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd at PANERA in FESTIVAL AT RIVA. We are reading the last two Parts of Re-Claiming the Bible for a Non- Religious World by John Shelby Spong. With this we will have finished the book and will look for a new one. So far, three titles have been proposed: Help, Thanks, Wow by Ann Lamont, The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, and Original Blessing by Matthew Fox.
We hope more Companions will join us in our meetings and we invite you to help us choose our next book. Are there other titles of interest to you? Let us know. Remember, besides being an interesting learning experience, our book group is also a great opportunity to just be together! Contact Pastor Wayne at SchwandtW@aol.com.

An Invitation from Kathy.....
I would like to offer to convene a women's spirituality group if there is enough interest. If you would like to get together twice a month on a Wednesday evening, please e-mail me with your ideas for topics (other evenings possible but first meeting will be on a Wednesday).
This group would likely meet for several months and start out in Edgewater.
Please send notice of your interest to Kathy Baker at k3b@comcast.net.

The creative energy of the universe has been unfolding for 14 billion years. Each atom in our bodies, in our food, in the earth beneath our feet was forged in the furnace of a star and traveled untold miles and years to become life here today. We do not stand on top of this planet. Rather we grow out of it like the grass. Together we will explore the transcendent mystery of creation that pulses beneath the visible world through silent ritual, meditation and relationship.
Leader: Ian White Maher is the founding pastor of Original Blessing, a Unitarian Universalist community based in Brooklyn, NY. He is an artist and experienced retreat leader committed to creation spirituality. Original Blessing is a spiritually ambitious movement seeking God through creative worship, social justice and compassionate community.
General Information: This is a silent weekend retreat that runs Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme. The leader usually offers brief meditations and morning and evening prayers on Saturday. The silence ends late-morning Sunday with a time of sharing and worship, followed by lunch, the departure meal.
The cost for the retreat is $200. To reserve a space, please send a $75 deposit with an application you can print from the application page on the website, www.dayspringretreat.org.
Dinner on Friday at is at 7 pm and is the first official gathering. You are welcome to arrive and settle in any time after 4 pm on Friday; we recommend you arrive no later than 6:30. The retreat will end by 2 pm on Sunday.
