Trinity Church in Menlo Park

Our two weeks to host Home and Hope begins this Sunday evening.  There are still opportunities to help -- contact Jim Bramlett if you would like to volunteer.

This past Sunday, we had a great meeting after church for Rev. Elizabeth's presentation of the Cafe Task Force report, detailing our explorations about the possibility of opening a cafe on our campus.  Over 50 people attended, listening attentively, asking great questions, and expressing points of view.  I'm grateful to all of you who participated.  The congregational discernment phase of this project continues, meaning that we continue to welcome your feedback and your questions.  You may convey feedback to Rev. Elizabeth or any member of the Vestry.  If you have specific questions, you may direct these to Rev. or to Bruce Deal, who is a member of the Cafe Task Force.  Please click here to read the cafe proposal.   Of course, you are also welcome to share your thoughts with me.  As the congregational discernment phase continues, there will be another meeting sometime in early Fall for another opportunity to have conversation together as we continue to decide whether this is the right move for Trinity.

I also want to give a shout out to the Core Teams that were formed in the aftermath of our Planning Extravaganza this past April.  The teams have been working hard, and are aiming to finalize the plans for their different areas within the next couple of weeks.  The Vestry and staff will be undertaking to merge these individual plans into a three year longer term plan for the church, which we look forward to sharing with you in September.

I will not be seeing you this Sunday!  As I mentioned, I am setting out for my annual vacation this week, and will return in mid-July.  My Sunday back at Trinity will be July 17.  I am always grateful for this annual time of refreshment, and hope that each of you will also find some time to relax and refresh this summer, as well.

And I will forward to seeing you soon!

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

Big Sur Camping Trip
August 18-21, 2016

Join the Trinity community for a relaxing weekend of camping and fun in Big Sur!

The Santa Lucia Chapel and Campground, a mission of All Saints Parish in Carmel, is a private and secluded campground in the gorgeous Big Sur area. The campground itself is right on the Big Sur River and has a family friendly beach area. The campground has running water and toilets (but no showers), picnic tables, a group barbecue area and a large campfire circle.  A communal dinner will be prepared for all on Saturday night, but otherwise meals are individual responsibility. Our time together will include a Sunday morning Eucahrist in the outdoor chapel, as well as morning prayer and compline to start and end our days together. There are ocean beaches within driving distance for those who want to venture out. In general this weekend is a time to relax, play in the river and on the beach and have fun together as a church community. You are welcome to come for as much or as little time as you would like.

Cost:  $30 per person for the weekend (children under 5 stay for free; $100 max per family)
For more information contact Rev. Elizabeth Riley or register here.

United Nations World Refugee Day:
Emotional Intelligence Discussion
June 21st, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Angus Hall

The UN World Refugee Day is an opportunity for inclusion, compassion, optimism, and creating a context for people to unite instead of divide.  While the global refugee crisis is a geopolitical issue, we all have times where we are seeking refuge from the "storms of life".  We all have the power to give refuge -- to create a place of physical and emotional safety, a space to support and care for fellow humans.

In honor of this day, you are invited to an emotional intelligence dialogue session called "Seeking Refuge" to practice emotional intelligence skills and discuss questions of compassion, ethics, and how we build community.

Tuesday, June 21, 7:00-8:30 pm
in Angus Hall.

PRAYER
Almighty God, who created us in your own image: Grant us grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations, to the glory of your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
