Trinity Church in Menlo Park

This Sunday at the 10 am service we will be commissioning and blessing youth who will be setting out on the Youth Mission Trip to Los Angeles next Wednesday, June 15.

After church this Sunday, we will be having a special coffee hour in Trinity Hall to present our Cafe Proposal.  For some time now, we have been mentioning the possibility of opening a café on our campus as a social enterprise, employing women from Catherine's Center and other similar programs.  A Café Task Force has been working hard over the past few months, under the leadership of the Rev. Elizabeth Riley, to explore this possibility.  Last month, the Vestry heard the task force's report, and concluded that it is time to move into the congregational discernment phase -- that is, to provide you with more information about this proposal and receive your feedback.  This will happen after church this Sunday, following the 10 am service.  Please plan to join us to find out more, and to add your voice.  Please click here for more background information.

I also want to let you know that I will be starting my annual vacation next Wednesday, June 15.  I will be away until July 13.  During this time, please direct any pastoral emergencies or other requests to Rev. Elizabeth.  Also, Rev. Mary will be away on the Youth Mission Trip beginning June 15.  Following that trip, Mary will be on vacation through the end of June.

As most of us fall into the unique rhythms of the summer, may it be a time of refreshment and renewal.

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

HIGHLIGHTED EVENT: CHURCH AT THE PARK
Special Coffee Hour with Cafe Presentation This Sunday after 10 am Service

After the 10 am service, we will be hosting a special coffee hour in Trinity Hall with a presentation on our proposal to open a cafe on our campus.  For the past several months, we have been exploring the possibility of opening a cafe as a social enterprise that would employ women who are seeking to rebuild their lives through one of several support programs.   Our research and exploration have now come to a point where it is time to share information with the congregation and seek feedback.  The first step in that process will happen this Sunday.  Please plan to join us.

Materials presented at this meeting will be made available through a link in the Weekly Email afterwards.   Paper copies will also be available from the Church Office for those who request them.

Big Sur Camping Trip
August 18-21, 2016

Join the Trinity community for a relaxing weekend of camping and fun in Big Sur!

The Santa Lucia Chapel and Campground, a mission of All Saints Parish in Carmel, is a private and secluded campground in the gorgeous Big Sur area. The campground itself is right on the Big Sur River and has a family friendly beach area. The campground has running water and toilets (but no showers), picnic tables, a group barbecue area and a large campfire circle.  A communal dinner will be prepared for all on Saturday night, but otherwise meals are individual responsibility. Our time together will include a Sunday morning Eucahrist in the outdoor chapel, as well as morning prayer and compline to start and end our days together. There are ocean beaches within driving distance for those who want to venture out. In general this weekend is a time to relax, play in the river and on the beach and have fun together as a church community. You are welcome to come for as much or as little time as you would like.

Cost:  $30 per person for the weekend (children under 5 stay for free; $100 max per family)
For more information contact Rev. Elizabeth Riley or register here.

United Nations World Refugee Day:
Emotional Intelligence Discussion
June 21st, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Angus Hall

The UN World Refugee Day is an opportunity for inclusion, compassion, optimism, and creating a context for people to unite instead of divide.  While the global refugee crisis is a geopolitical issue, we all have times where we are seeking refuge from the "storms of life".  We all have the power to give refuge -- to create a place of physical and emotional safety, a space to support and care for fellow humans.

In honor of this day, you are invited to an emotional intelligence dialogue session called "Seeking Refuge" to practice emotional intelligence skills and discuss questions of compassion, ethics, and how we build community.

Tuesday, June 21, 7:00-8:30 pm
in Angus Hall.
