Please note that due to the Super Bowl,
there will be NO 5:05 service this Sunday.

While the Bay Area is caught up in Super Bowl fever this weekend, this Sunday is the Last Sunday of the Epiphany season in the church calendar.   As is usual for this Sunday, we will hear the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain top, in the presence of Peter, James, and John.  This year, we will hear Luke's version of that story, which gives us a glimpse of the mystical divine light that guided the wise sages to Jesus' birth a the beginning of Epiphany.  Only now that light shines forth from Christ.

The end of Epiphany means that we are about to descend from the mountain top of the Transfiguration into the deep valley of Lent, a season when our tradition invites us to reflect more deeply on our faith and on the living out of that faith.  We will make a final farewell to Epiphany on Shrove Tuesday, February 9, with our traditional Pancake Supper from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Trinity Hall.  Then, we will embrace Lent in our observance of Ash Wednesday on February 10.  There are three service times for the Ash Wednesday liturgy:  7:30 am, 12 Noon, and 7:30 pm, each in the Chapel.  Choose the one that fits into your schedule.

Our Lenten program this year is designed to support the deeper reflection to which Lent calls us.   Part of providing that support includes offering the program on Sundays after church this year.  On the last two Sundays in February and the first two Sundays in March, we will gather for a brief lunch after the 10:00 am service followed by a choice of two programs for adults and one for children.   There is now a page on our website about Lent and Holy Week, which you can access here.

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

Ash Cross The Lenten season will begin on Wednesday, February 10, as we observe Ash Wednesday.

Trinity will offer three services on Ash Wednesday to accommodate a variety of schedules:  7:30 am, 12:00 noon, and 7:30 pm.  All services will be offered in the Chapel -- the evening service will include music.

Please plan to join us for one of these services as we move into the season and spirit of Lent.

Lenten Sunday Lunches & Programs
It Starts Early This Year!

On the last four Sundays in Lent -- February 21, February 28, March 6, and March 13 -- we will be offering our Lenten Program after the 10:00 am Sunday service.  It will begin with lunch in Trinity Hall at 11:15 am, and our programs will begin at 11:35 am.  We will finish between 12:30 and 12:45.  There will be three offerings:
  • Being Mortal with Rev. Elizabeth
  • Growing a Rule of Life with Rev. Matthew
  • Exploring Communion for Children with Rev. Mary

This last offering will be for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade.  Youth are invited and encouraged to participate in one of the other offerings.  Child care will be provided for little ones.

More information for each class and our Lent and Holy Week information is available on our website here.  We hope that this will be a great way to engage everyone at every stage of life in the deeper reflection that we are called to in the season of Lent.
