Greetings!
This Sunday, the Singing Saints (our children's choir under the direction of Elise Jones) will be singing at the 10 am service. Only those children in third grade and above will be singing this Sunday. They will be accompanied by our Once Month Group (OMG), our contemporary music band -- this being the last Sunday of the month, it's our alternative music Sunday at 10:00 am. This Sunday will also be our monthly Children's Liturgy at 5:05. Since the older kids are singing at 10 am, this month's liturgy will be focused on younger children below the third grade. And, it's Annual Meeting Sunday! We begin at 5:45 pm in Trinity Hall with a delicious meal, and will spend some time looking back at 2015 and forward to the remainder of this year. We will finish by 7:30, and child care will be available in Angus Hall. The clergy have been rethinking our Lenten practice and program this year, so I hope you will read the article in this email about Rethinking Lent. We're excited about it, and hope you will be, as well. There is now a page on our website about Lent and Holy Week, which you can access here. Peace,

Please plan to join us for one of these services as we move into the season and spirit of Lent.

Re-Thinking Lent It Starts Early This Year! Easter comes at the end of March this year, and so Lent starts very early: Ash Wednesday is February 10!
Over the past week or so, the clergy have been rethinking our plans for the Lenten season. Our deep desire is to engage as many people as possible with the opportunity to go deeper in this season, and we recognize that our traditional weekday and weeknight offerings don't provide that opportunity for everyone, given the realities of our lives.
So this year, we've decided to try something different. On the last four Sundays in Lent -- February 21, February 28, March 6, and March 13 -- we will be offering our Lenten Program after the 10:00 am Sunday service. It will begin with lunch in Trinity Hall at 11:15 am, and our programs will begin at 11:35 am. We will finish between 12:30 and 12:45. There will be three offerings:
- Being Mortal with Rev. Elizabeth
- Growing a Rule of Life with Rev. Matthew
- Exploring Communion for Children with Rev. Mary
This last offering will be for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade. Youth are invited and encouraged to participate in one of the other offerings. Child care will be provided for little ones. More information for each class and our Lent and Holy Week information is available on our website here. We hope that this will be a great way to engage everyone at every stage of life in the deeper reflection that we are called to in the season of Lent. |

Invitation to Centering Prayer Study
An invitation from Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, Saratoga
Speeding through a day-to-day existence, but not really living? Searching for a more profound experience? Curious to explore other approaches to life? Technology and innovation drive many aspects of our lives in and around the Silicon Valley. Yet being driven by technology can be a barrier to finding meaning in our busy lives. Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga is hosting a study to explore how the ancient practice of Centering Prayer can help us dive below the surface of our lives, connect our faith with our creativity, and become more aware of the presence of the Holy.
Choose your kick- off session for this three-month study:
Wed., January 27 7-8:30 pm or Sat., February 6 10-11:30 am
For more information contact: The Rev. Channing Smith,
