This Sunday, we continue to move deeper into the season of Epiphany as we reflect on St. Paul's teaching about spiritual gifts and how that teaching relates to the story from John's Gospel in which Jesus, under pressure from his mother, changes water into wine at a wedding feast in Galilee.

About 10 members of our youth group will be leaving from Trinity on Sunday afternoon for an overnight at St. Matthew's in San Mateo followed by a service day on Monday in honor of MLK, Jr. Day.  They will be joining with other youth groups from around the Peninsula.

Please be sure that you have the Annual Meeting on your calendar for January 31.  We begin at 5:45 pm in Trinity Hall with a delicious meal, and will spend some time looking back at 2015 and forward to the remainder of this year.  We will finish by 7:30, and child care will be available in Angus Hall.

The clergy have been rethinking our Lenten practice and program this year, so I hope you will read the article in this email about Rethinking Lent.  We're excited about it, and hope you will be, as well.

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

Youth & Family Ministries Update

Singing Saints and acolyte training at 9:00 am, and Godly Play and Explorers at 10:00 am.  Please note that there will be NO youth group meeting this Sunday, due to the overnight at St. Matthew's, San Mateo, in which a number of our youth are participating, along with Rev. Mary.   Carpools leave from the church parking lot at 4:00 pm.

The next Children's Liturgy will be January 31 at 5:05 pm in the Chapel, just before the Annual Meeting.

Our next Faith Full Families is scheduled for Sunday, February 21 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Angus Hall. This is a new time for this program, as we respond to feedback from families about what might work best of them.  Join us for as we share an activity and lunch together.

Annual Meeting on January 31
5:45 in Trinity Hall

Please join us on Sunday, January 31, at 5:45 pm in Trinity Hall for the Annual Meeting of the congregation.  This is a time when we share food and fellowship together, and take time to look a bit at the year that has past and forward to the year to come.  We also say farewell and thank you to outgoing Vestry members and officers.

Please plan to join us!  Childcare will be available for those who need it.

New Online Giving Platform

As we move into a New Year, Trinity has updated our online giving platform.  The new online giving system allows you to make both scheduled and one-time contributions, either by credit card or ACH transfer from your bank account.  The system is now linked to our contribution tracking system, so that any online gift you make is immediately reflected on your statement, which you can also access anytime from your account.  And it's all very secure.

To use the new online giving system, just click here and get started.

February 9: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
pancakes
This year, Easter falls very early (on March 27), which means Lent begins February 10!  So, of course, we will have our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 9 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.   Please join us for this fun gathering in which we get to have breakfast for supper!

Ash Wednesday Services

Ash Cross The Lenten season will begin on Wednesday, February 10, as we observe Ash Wednesday.

Trinity will offer three services on Ash Wednesday to accommodate a variety of schedules:  7:30 am, 12:00 noon, and 7:30 pm.  All services will be offered in the Chapel -- the evening service will include music.

Please plan to join us for one of these services as we move into the season and spirit of Lent.

OWLS Luncheon on February 12
12:00 Noon in Angus Hall

Please join us on Friday, February 12 at noon for an opportunity to hear fellow parishioner Jack Trollman talk about special work he did helping install Christian radio stations in the small country of Estonia after the Communists left.

It will be a very interesting presentation for us, and one that will give us insight into a remarkable time in former Soviet history.

Please contact Alecia in the office to let us know if you plan to join us so we have enough food for everyone. Lunch is always provided for attendees, so plan to join OWLS on this date!

Re-Thinking Lent
It Starts Early This Year!

Easter comes at the end of March this year, and so Lent starts very early: Ash Wednesday is February 10!

Over the past week or so, the clergy have been rethinking our plans for the Lenten season.  Our deep desire is to engage as many people as possible with the opportunity to go deeper in this season, and we recognize that our traditional weekday and weeknight offerings don't provide that opportunity for everyone, given the realities of our lives.

So this year, we've decided to try something different.  On the last four Sundays in Lent -- February 21, February 28, March 6, and March 13 -- we will be offering our Lenten Program after the 10:00 am Sunday service.  It will begin with lunch in Trinity Hall at 11:15 am, and our programs will begin at 11:35 am.  We will finish between 12:30 and 12:45.  There will be three offerings:
  • Being Mortal with Rev. Elizabeth
  • Growing a Rule of Life with Rev. Matthew
  • Exploring Communion for Children with Rev. Mary

This last offering will be for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade.  Youth are invited and encouraged to participate in one of the other offerings.  Child care will be provided for little ones.

Watch for more details in the coming weeks.  We hope that this will be a great way to engage everyone at every stage of life in the deeper reflection that we are called to in the season of Lent.
