A former member of Congress was in the news this week for talking about how close we are to the second coming of Christ and the end of the world, and that news stories every day just make this more and more clear.   All the signs are there, she suggested.   This week's Gospel reading (Mark 13:1-8) shows us how Jesus dealt with the sense that the "end might be near", which is heightened during periods of social anxiety.  Jesus suggests that we should not be alarmed by the world's troubles, nor should we consider them to be signs of anything in particular.  We'll explore that together this Sunday.

The 2015 Stewardship Campaign has begun, as we seek to raise pledges to support our ministry in 2016.  The theme for this year's campaign is, "To love and serve with gladness and singleness of heart."    We invite you to prayerfully consider how you want to partner with Trinity in 2016 financially and in other ways, as well.  Please visit the stewardship page on our website and view the short video presentation.  You may also fill out your pledge card online by clicking HERE, or if you would like to fill out a paper pledge card and didn't receive one in the mail (or have perhaps mislaid it), blank cards will be available at the back of the church.

Thank you for your support of Trinity, and for being a part of this community.

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

Stewardship 2015
To Love and Serve with Gladness and Singleness of Heart

Thank you to Leigh Flesher for offering a testimonial at the 10 o'clock service on Sunday. And, thank you to those of you who have already made your 2016 pledge. You should have received your pledge packet last week. Please let Alecia know if you did not receive a packet. We urge you to submit your pledge as soon as possible, as this greatly helps with the formulation of our budget for 2016.   You may fill in a secure pledge card online by clicking HERE.

To learn more about how to prayerfully and thoughtfully consider your 2016 pledge, please visit the online presentation by clicking HERE.  This page also has a link to allow you to fill out your pledge card online.

Youth & Family Ministries Update

Singing Saints and Acolyte Training kick off our Sunday morning programs this week at 9:00 a.m. in Angus Hall.  Godly Play and Explorers meet this week in Trinity Hall at 10:00.

It's not too early to think about the Christmas pageant. If your child would like to have a speaking part in the pageant, please let Elise Jones know. We have six speaking parts. All speaking parts require attendance at rehearsals (12/6, 12/13, 12/20, and 12/24).

And please note that the time for the Christmas Pageant service on Christmas Eve has changed!!  The service will be at 3:00 pm, an hour earlier than previously.

Youth group meets from 6-8 this Sunday.
This week we observed Veterans Day in the US-- a celebration of those who have fought in wars for this country. What do Christians have to say about war and how to we reconcile our capacity for war with Christian ideas? Join us for conversation about this question along with friends and food.

Donor Sabbath @ Trinity on Nov. 15
Noon to 3 pm in Trinity Hall

The Bay Area association of Kidney Patients, in partnership with Trinity, is presenting the movie Perfect  Strangers on November 15 in Trinity Hall beginning at noon.  The movie tells the story of Ellie, who embarks on an unpredictable journey of twists and turns, determined to donate one of her kidneys.  Meanwhile, there is someone 500 miles away from her who endures daily home dialysis while waiting for that perfect kidney match.

November 15 is a national Donor Sabbath, a time to remember and thank all those who have donated the precious organs both in life and in death, and also an opportunity to remind people of the possibility of donating badly needed kidneys as living donors.

Reserve your seat for this event (which includes lunch) by clicking HERE.   If you need child care, please LET US KNOW (it's free!).
November OWLS Meeting
Friday, Nov. 13, 12:00 pm

Everyone is invited to the OWLS luncheon on November 13th at noon, to learn about the dogs and mushers of the Iditarod, the most famous of Alaska's long-distance sled dog races.  Our presenters will be parishioners Margie and Roy Stehle who traveled to Nome last March, to be at the finish line of this great race.  Please let Alecia know if you're planning to attend.

For those of you unable to attend the OWLS luncheon on October 9 (and even for those who did!), you may view the 25 minute documentary, The Story of Jughandle, by  clicking HERE.

Advent Wreath Making & Dinner on Nov 22

Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 22, at 6:00 pm in Trinity Hall.  Everyone is invited to join us for a Church Supper.  Along with our meal, you'll learn about Advent wreaths, how to use them for prayer at home, and you'll be provided materials to make one to take home.  The Advent season begins on Sunday, November 29.  This event will follow our monthly Children's Liturgy, which will take place in the Chapel at 5:05 pm.  Join us!

Outreach Opportunity:  "Christmas" Dinner for Veterans on Dec. 4

For some years now, volunteers from Trinity have helped to provide an early Christmas Dinner for Veterans in our area.  JB Brahy oversaw and coordinated this effort for years.   Now that JB and Gail have moved to Southern California, the baton is being passed to the Outreach Commission.

The dinner will take place on Friday, December 4, from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm at the Peninsula Veterans Center, 345 Middlefield Road, Building 1, in Menlo Park.  For more information, and to volunteer to help, please contact Robert Wendin.

St. Nick, Parents' Morning Out, Lessons & Carols, and the Christmas Fiesta

Mark your calendar for our special events that lead up to our celebration of Christmas.

On Sunday, December 6, St. Nicholas will be joining us at both the 8:00 am and 10:00 am services.  His visit is extra-special this year because it falls on the actual St. Nicholas' Day in the church calendar!

Saturday, December 12, from 10:00 am to Noon will be Parents' Morning Out!  Youth group members and parent volunteers will supervise and entertain children that morning so the parents have some free time.  It's a great opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done!

Sunday, December 13, will be our service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 10:00 am (note there will be no Communion at that service), with special offerings from our music program.   We will also be welcoming new members.

Our Christmas Fiesta will also be on December 13, following the 10:00 am service.  This is an opportunity to enjoy food and fellowship together, while having the opportunity to sing Christmas carols and get in the spirit of the season.  This year, the food is being provided by the Kitchen Crew, led by  Bob Cleveland.

Christmas Memorials

There are opportunities every Sunday for people to make contributions for flowers and/or music to honor God and give thanks for all sorts of occasions (births, anniversaries or birthdays, memorials to loved ones who have died) or to honor a particular group of folks (the clergy and staff, the Family Ministries Commission, the Altar Guild, etc.). At Christmas, with all the special music and floral decorations, many such memorials can be made by many different people to celebrate the event and help defray the extra cost of the celebrations. If you wish to honor God and give thanks for any special persons or events this Christmas, we encourage you to do so.

Please CLICK HERE to print out the Christmas Memorial Form, and fill it out following the instructions.  Forms should be returned to the Church Office by Sunday, December 6.
