Greetings!
This Sunday is the Annual Church Retreat at Bishop's Ranch. Almost 70 of the Trinity community will be up in Sonoma County this weekend for a little bit of spiritual program and a lot of fellowship and relaxation. The Rev. Frannie Hall Kieschnick will be preaching and presiding at the 8:00 am and 10:00 am services in Menlo Park this Sunday, while Rev. Mary and I are at the retreat. I will be back for the 5:05 pm service Sunday afternoon. Please note that, as a result of the retreat, there will be no children's program this Sunday morning and no youth group Sunday evening. These will resume on October 11. Saturday, October 10 will be our first Parents Night Out of the season, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Please try to let Rev. Mary know if you plan to drop your children off. Some of our youth and their parents will be having fun with the kids, while parents enjoy an evening out. There is no charge, but donations are invited to help with the youth summer mission trip. Next Sunday, October 11, will be our annual Blessing of the Animals at the 10:00 am service. You are invited to bring your pets to join us and receive their blessing (stuffed animals are also welcome). It's always a fun time, so I hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate St. Francis' love for nature and all God's creatures, and honor the animals in our lives. Please mark your calendars for our next All Church Supper on Sunday, October 18 at 6:00 pm in Trinity Hall. This is a fun time to share a meal together and build community.
Peace,

12-Step Eucharist Wednesday, October 7, 6:15 pm Our next 12-Step Eucharist will be on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6:15 pm in the Chapel. The Rev. Mary Greene will be leading this months 12-Step Eucharist. It is a service that uses grape juice instead of wine, and the liturgy is designed to incorporate elements of the 12-Step program. It is for those in 12-Step programs and for those who love and support them.

Next Men's Dinner is Oct 7
The next Men's Group Dinner is next Wednesday, October 7, at 7:00 pm at the home of Bob Cleveland. Please join us for food and fellowship, and to continue planning for a Men's Retreat after the first of the year. Donations are requested to cover the cost of the meal.
The Men's Group has been re-started in the last couple of years through a true grass roots effort. We began with food and fellowship, and are now moving into understanding how we can help one another in our mutual spiritual development. All men of Trinity are welcome and invited to participate.
We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the Cleveland home.

Blessing of the Animals Oct. 11
Sunday, October 11 at 10:00 am will be our annual Blessing of the Pets!
All furry, winged, gill-bearing, and other household pets are welcome to attend the service with their humans as we celebrate the spirit of St. Francis, whose generosity extended not only to people, but to animals, as well. Much loved stuffed animals are also more than welcome to attend and receive a blessing.
If you've never attended this service before, it might sound a bit crazy: animals in church???? But, it works! And it's lots of fun. So round up your pets and plan to join us. |

Youth & Family Ministries Update
There is no Sunday morning program this week due to the retreat, and no Sunday evening youth group this week.
Random Acts of Flowers invites Trinity Church Families to volunteer at their uber-cool and wonderful smelling warehouse on October 18. Join us after church. Contact Rev. Mary for more details.
We are looking for people who would be interested in being trained as Godly Play teachers. This is a great way to participate in the spiritual development of our youngest members -- and to enhance your own spiritual formation, as well! Trinity covers the cost of the training in return for a minimum teaching commitment. Contact Rev. Mary for more info!
Our first Parents Night Out (PNO) of the year will be Saturday, October 10, from 6 - 9 pm!

Rev. Matthew's Classes Have Begun, Audio is Available During his sabbatical, Rev. Matthew embarked on a writing project in the hope of synthesizing the insights gained from his study of Richard Rohr, James Alison, and other mystics and theologians with his own experience of God and Christianity. The result of this project is a manuscript about the spiritual journey from the smaller self to the larger self. In the course of that journey, we encounter some critical questions about the nature of religion, the Bible, the nature of God, the life and teaching of Jesus, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection, among others. In this offering, Rev. Matthew will be presenting and teaching from his manuscript about his own experience of struggling with these critical questions and the tentative conclusions he has come to about them. Participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback, and to engage more deeply their own spiritual journey and the questions that arise as we make that journey.
Classes are offered on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm with a repeat session on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am. Click HERE for more information, and to access audio recordings of the classes. |
October OWLS Meeting Friday, October 9, 12:00 noon in Angus Hall Please join us on Friday, October 9 at noon to hear fellow parishioner Victoria Tregoning share an incredible story about the history of her family who farmed on the coast of California. The Story of Jughandle is an inspiring true story of ecological crusading and dreams come true with the creation of Jughandle State Park and the discovery of its unique Pygmy Forest Staircase on the Mendocino coast of northern California a half century ago. Victoria will show a short (25 min.) documentary film about Jughandle that was completed last year by photographer, Alden Olmsted, and that has appeared recently on KQED and other PBS stations statewide. Homesteaded by her great-grandfather in the 1860's at Jughandle creek, the 800 acre Tregoning ranch along a mile of coast and highway1, was her family's livelihood and stewardship for over a 100 years.
Please join us at noon for one of Luttickens delicious luncheons, and to hear Victoria. Contact Alecia in the church office to let us know you're coming, so we are sure to have enough food. |
