This Sunday is the last Sunday of the month, and so that means that it's our monthly alternative music Sunday at 10:00 am.  The music will be led by our Bluegrass Band.

This Sunday is also Faith Full Families beginning at a NEW TIME:  4:00 pm.  Families with younger children will gather in Trinity Hall for the Faith Full Families activity and program, and will then move into the Chapel for our monthly 5:05 pm Children's Liturgy (it may be designed for children, but everyone is welcome!).  Faith Full Families will conclude with dinner at 6:00 pm with the Youth Group.

If you haven't signed up for a small group -- which can be anything from a Trinity Supper Group to a book group or spiritual development group -- click HERE to fill out the survey. We'll be putting groups together soon, so please sign up by September 27.

If you haven't yet signed up for the Church Retreat at Bishop's Ranch (Oct 2-4), it's not too late!  We have six spaces left.  If you do want to come, please CLICK HERE and sign up ASAP.

We had a wonderful Hearts for Justice event on the Trinity campus last Saturday.  About 100 people from Trinity and the larger community gathered to hear our amazing and moving speakers engage us on the issue of mass incarceration.  People who attended the event were impressed with the beauty of our space and especially with the hospitality they were offered.  A big THANK YOU to all our staff and volunteers who helped welcome people so generously to our campus.

Peace,
MatthewSignatureGenuine

Rev. Elizabeth Update

Rev. Elizabeth and baby Ellie are both doing well.  Ellie continues to be in the hospital gaining weight and important baby skills (like learning how to eat!), and it is hoped that she will be able to go home in the next few days.   Please continue to keep the Riley family in your prayers.

12-Step Eucharist
Wednesday, October 7, 6:15 pm
12-Step Symbol Our next 12-Step Eucharist will be on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6:15 pm in the Chapel.  The Rev. Frannie Hall Kieschnick will be leading these monthly Eucharists during Rev. Elizabeth's leave.  It is a service that uses grape juice instead of wine, and the liturgy is designed to incorporate elements of the 12-Step program.  It is for those in 12-Step programs and for those who love and support them.

Outreach Help to Refugees

At it's last meeting, the Outreach Commission talked about the growing Syrian Refugee crisis, and voted to give a $2,500 grant to help support the refugees via one of the charities recommended by The Episcopal Church.

The commission also made a grant of $1,000 to the Episcopal Chaplaincy at Stanford Hospital, which employs one part-time chaplain who is supported by a number of volunteers.  The chaplaincy receives no financial support from the hospital.

Our ability to provide funds to respond to crises and support other needs in our community is a result of the generosity of the Trinity family.  Thank you!
Blessing of the Animals Oct. 11

Sunday, October 11 at 10:00 am will be our annual Blessing of the Pets!

All furry, winged, gill-bearing, and other household pets are welcome to attend the service with their humans as we celebrate the spirit of St. Francis, whose generosity extended not only to people, but to animals, as well.   Much loved stuffed animals are also more than welcome to attend and receive a blessing.

If you've never attended this service before, it might sound a bit crazy:  animals in church????  But, it works!  And it's lots of fun. So round up your pets and plan to join us.
Youth & Family Ministries Update

Faith Full Families is this Sunday beginning at 4:00 pm
, and will include our monthly Children's Liturgy in the Chapel at 5:05 pm.   As a result, there will be no morning program offered for children.

We are looking for people who would be interested in being trained as Godly Play teachers.
This is a great way to participate in the spiritual development of our youngest members -- and to enhance your own spiritual formation, as well!  Trinity covers the cost of the training in return for a minimum teaching commitment.  Contact Rev. Mary for more info!

The Youth Group (middle and high school ages) will gather this Sunday at 6:00 pm.  We will begin by sharing dinner with our Faith Full Family participants, and then move on to learn about the mysteries of acolyting!

Youth and parents enjoyed an awesome pool party last Sunday thanks to the hospitality of Steve, Joann, and Nicholas Andrew.  We had a great turnout to kick off the year.  Thanks!

Our first Parents Night Out (PNO) of the year will be Saturday, October 10, from 5 - 8 pm!

Rev. Matthew's Classes Begin September 28/30

During his sabbatical, Rev. Matthew embarked on a writing project in the hope of synthesizing the insights gained from his study of Richard Rohr, James Alison, and other mystics and theologians with his own experience of God and Christianity.  The result of this project is a manuscript about the spiritual journey from the smaller self to the larger self.  In the course of that journey, we encounter some critical questions about the nature of religion, the Bible, the nature of God, the life and teaching of Jesus, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection, among others.   In this offering, Rev. Matthew will be presenting and teaching from his manuscript about his own experience of struggling with these critical questions and the tentative conclusions he has come to about them.  Participants will have the opportunity to provide feedback, and to engage more deeply their own spiritual journey and the questions that arise as we make that journey.

Classes are offered on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm with a repeat session on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am.  Click HERE for more information.

October OWLS Meeting
Friday, October 9, 12:00 noon in Angus Hall

Please join us on Friday, October 9 at noon to hear fellow parishioner Victoria Tregoning share an incredible story about the history of her family who farmed on the coast of California.   The Story of Jughandle is an inspiring true story of ecological crusading and dreams come true with the creation of Jughandle State Park and the discovery of its unique Pygmy Forest Staircase on the Mendocino coast of northern California a half century ago.  Victoria will show a short (25 min.) documentary film about Jughandle that was completed last year by photographer, Alden Olmsted, and that has appeared recently on KQED and other PBS stations statewide. Homesteaded by her great-grandfather in the 1860's at Jughandle creek, the 800 acre Tregoning ranch along a mile of coast and highway1, was her family's livelihood and stewardship for over a 100 years.

Please join us at noon for one of Luttickens delicious luncheons, and to hear Victoria. Contact Alecia in the church office to let us know you're coming, so we are sure to have enough food.
