The inner stillness
found in meditation
becomes your new
reference point
in life,
eventually replacing
the reference points
most of us use
to determine how we feel
or who we are -
the world out there
and our roles
and responsibilities in it.
It's a subtle yet powerful
shift in perspective -
and creates a new normal -
a life lived from
your soul-center.

Happy Fall! I am finishing my latest manuscript for Hay House called Love & the Power of Attention due out in May 2014. Meanwhile, I have decided to begin something new (Autumn is always a good time to do that!) In upcoming issues, I'll help you discover how to transform your life with powerful themes from my book Soul-Centered: Transform Your Life in 8 Weeks with Meditation.
The themes include: Living with Present Moment Awareness, Peace & Stressing Less, Beginner's Mind Equals Freedom, Loving Yourself, Creating a Soul Connection, Communicating Authentically, Being Open to Receive, and Creating a Nourishing Routine. Each theme will come with a bonus meditation too!
This month I'll introduce you to the 5 Essentials of Meditation - essentials I wish I had known 25 years ago when I first started to meditate. Feel free to share them with your friends using the links on this page. Let's meditate together sometime very soon!

With love,
Sarah McLean, Director McLean Meditation Institute

The 5 Essentials of Meditation
Before you begin your journey toward becoming soul-centered, there are five essentials for your success in meditation. Actually, I wish I had known what they were before I began my practice, it would've made meditating a whole lot easier!
The essentials, as I see them are: (1) it's okay to have thoughts during meditation, it's the nature of the mind to think (2) don't try too hard, it's a barrier to the natural settling down in meditation (3) let go of expectations, they'll limit your possibilities (4) be kind to yourself, the way you treat yourself in meditation is the way you treat yourself as you live your life, and (5) stick with it, don't stop because you don't think anything is happening, or you aren't getting where you think you should go. It's important to know this - the experiences you have in meditation have no bearing on whether or not your meditations are "working." Read more...
