A Brand New Year!

A new year always brings with it a sense of starting again. Some of us can look at the New Year as a clean slate.. with endless possibilities.  We think of all the exciting things our teams or ministries can accomplish and we can't wait to get started! Others of us are not all that excited about the new year.  Perhaps your team has been hit with problems and they are not going away just because the calendar has changed.  How encouraging are the words from Scripture - that no matter what is going on with us - God is faithful and His mercies are new every morning!  (Lamentations 3:22-23).  Here are three ways to create space for you to see the faithfulness of God in 2013:

Schedule Corporate Prayer

Encourage prayer at every level of your organization.  Commit to prayer times with your leadership teams. Pray to God with others.  We can be lifted up when we know that our concerns can be prayed about...and answered.  And God is honored when we "sacrifice" time for Him.  We are reminded of God's faithfulness when we realize He has answered many of our prayers. Make prayer a priority - there is power in prayer!

Encourage Team Collaboration

Take a look at your departments. Do you sense that different functions are working against each other, rather than with each other?  Inspire various department heads to work together on solving the tough problems in your organization. Create opportunities for cross-functional teams to tackle tough issues.  And working together - you can be a lot stronger organization! Sometimes we can be discouraged because we feel that we are alone - but it is in community when we have strength.  Watch for how God can move in and among team members and teams - creating unity among our diversity!

Share Stories of God's Past Faithfulness

See all the ways you can give God the glory by communicating to your staff, teams, or departments about what God has done.  Nearly missed a budget short fall because of a "just in time" donor gift? Share this news with your whole ministry, not just the development team. Successfully implemented an organization-wide software program that has increased your ability to track gifts and reach donors?  Be sure to inform your ministry.  Heard of a particularly impacting story by one of your program people?  Tell the story to your organization!  Or better yet - have the person share in person at one of your all-employee staff meetings!  Share stories at all-employee meetings, department head meetings, and your one-on-one meetings with your leaders.  And don't forget all the creative ways we have available to communicate...in person, small meetings, emails, newsletters, etc.

In Phil 3:13, the Apostle Paul said "Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead."  Take encouragement from these practical ways we can look forward to all the ways that God can be faithful in our ministries, teams, and in our lives!

With Boundless hope,

Jan
