A 1000 Thanks!

Thanks to all the generous people who helped make the Thanks 1000 event a success.  Thanks for all the dessert and ice donations.  Also, thanks to all who gave their time and energy before and during the event.  Thanks to the Cayton family for putting together the framed arial photo of the band, to Mary Mookerjee for the knitted band bear and to Usha Shukla for the portrait of Mr. Grantham.  Please say thanks to Noland's Cake Shop, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Starbucks (on Santa Rita) and Peet's for their donations of coffee and dessert.  A special thanks to Brian Cavanaugh, Mark Aubel and Marilyn Palowitch for thinking big and helping to create a very special memory for Jon Grantham and all of his fans.

What a Weekend!!
I could fill a large space with all of the gratitude I am feeling for the Amador band family after Saturday.  The whole afternoon and evening will be an experience I can say with certainty I will never forget.  Thank you for being a part of such a remarkable group and for supporting my work here, but more importantly, for supporting your kids.  Mr. Parker (my surprise guest and mentor) was very impressed by every part of our program and was especially complimentary about how gracious each person was that he met.

Special thank-you's go to Sally Baker, Marilyn Palowitch, and Brian Cavanaugh for the organization and vision necessary to make the day a reality.

And the cherry on the cake of the day?  The Marching Dons turning in a stellar performance at DVC on Saturday.  Congratulations to the students on earning 1st place honors and bringing home the High Music Caption Award.

A look ahead...

DATE CHANGE FOR 2nd SEMESTER CMEA FESTIVAL
Due to a conflict with the choir/orchestra tour in April, our CMEA festival date and location have been changed.  All four concert bands will now be attending band festival on Friday May, 10 at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord.  More details to follow, but please make sure this change is on your calendar as this is a graded event for the band students in the second semester.

Responsible Adult Volunteers Needed in October and November

There are lots of opportunities to help out as an RA in October and November.  The Marching Dons will be performing at two varsity football games - October 19th against Granada High for the Homecoming Game. October 27th we will be performing in the Foothill Band Competition right here in Pleasanton.  November will be even more exciting! The Band and Color Guard will be performing at the football game against Foothill HS on November 2nd. We will be competing in three WBA competitions on November 3rd, November 10th and WBA Championships on November 17/18th. Our Friends and Family performance where both Foothill HS and AVHS perform for hometown fans will be held at Foothill HS will be on November 15th.

For football games RAs will be assisting the Marching Band and Color Guard during warm-up, uniform prep, during the football game and half time show as well post game. We'll be setting up 200+ chairs on the field, filling large water jugs, handing out gauntlets, putting plumes in shakos, watering the band, putting hair up into shakos, shining shoes giving the band and guard a snack after their performance, replacing all chairs and supplies to the band and cart room.

For competitions we'll be doing all this as well as traveling with the band on buses to and from the competition. To travel with the band you MUST be cleared as a volunteer through Pleasanton Unified School District.

PLEASE NOTE: WANT TO HELP OUT BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO RIDE THE BUS OR ALL THE BUS SPOTS ARE TAKEN. WE ALWAYS NEED EXTRA HANDS AT THE EVENT...DRIVE IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN VEHICLE AND MEET US THERE TO HELP. EMAIL  JODY HARCOURT IF THIS IS YOUR PREFERENCE.

You need absolutely no experience, we train on the job!
