Person of the Month: Charles Russell Lowell (1835-1864)
A descendant of generations of New Englanders, Charles Russell Lowell joined the Massachusetts troops after the first shots of the Civil War were fired. After accepting the commission of Colonel of the 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry his regiment were constantly on the move, seeing action every day for weeks at a time.
Hit twice during the battle of Cedar Creek, Lowell continued to fight until he was hit again, and died issuing final orders. He is buried in Lot 323 Fountain Avenue...learn more

Our Marathon is a crowd-sourced digital archive of stories, photos, video, and social media related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and its aftermath. This event is an opportunity for members of the Watertown community to share their stories with Our Marathon's still-growing archive. It is also a chance for members of the Our Marathon team to formally introduce the archive and its intentions to Watertown.
