Wowza. What a Weekend.
What a convention!
Our 42nd annual convention totally "Set the Pace" for our 3000+ participants! We are still tallying up our final numbers, but have a feeling we broke a few records in Indianapolis.
Of course, we know not all of our members could make it to this year's convention, so we'll take you there with this issue of our E-News!
Before we go any further, we have to say that
our volunteers this year were outstanding in every way. It is simply not possible to hold an event of this magnitude without a small army of volunteers. Down Syndrome Indiana went above and beyond the call of duty while recruiting this year's army. These volunteers were the best of the best -- they were friendly and polite and eager and enthusiastic and sweet and endearing and fun and committed and caring. (And probably some more superlatives that just won't fit in this box!) Thank you DS Indiana; thank you volunteers!

Youth and Adults Conference
More than 300 individuals with Down syndrome participated in the Youth and Adults conference, where they learned (among other things) the latest in iPad and smart phone apps, tips for successful photography, how to relax through yoga, and how to have fun in the kitchen!
Our self advocates also elected our newest board member, Daniel Chaplin of Homewood, Alabama! Brothers and Sisters Conference
Our Brothers and Sisters conference, led by experienced sibs (parents not allowed) had an amazing weekend, which ended with an off-site trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- complete with a police escort! One favorite quote shared by the Sibling Leadership Team from an attendee: "Thanks guys for helping us. You are awesome, and I hope to be like u one day".

Focus on Adult Siblings with our new Toolkit! In addition to a reception on Thursday evening, so adult sibs could meet, we facilitated a Sharing Session and a track of workshops appropriate for adult brothers and sisters.
On top of that, we were so excited to introduce this Adult Sibling Toolkit! Adult siblings, who want to be involved in their brother or sister's life, but aren't familiar with the details involved, can use this toolkit to jump start conversations with their parents, and learn how to be an effective advocate, friend and perhaps, caregiver, after their parents are no longer able.
