Make a Difference in 2014!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The National Down Syndrome Congress is actively recruiting young adult siblings and self advocates to help take the 3-2-1 Dance!™ movement to the next level.  Helping to organize a 3-2-1 Dance!™ is a wonderful way to gain some leadership experience, learn about fundraising and event planning, have a great time while at the same time furthering the NDSC mission.  Our vision is to have a 3-2-1 Dance!™ event on every college campus throughout the country.  If you'd like to help make that happen, contact Rebecca Davis at 1-800-232-NDSC (1-800-232-6372) or by email: rebecca@ndsccenter.org
Convention Registration - FREE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We're giving it away! We're giving away the opportunity to receive a free registration for the 2014 National Down Syndrome Convention in Indianapolis.

Crowdrise, an online fundraising platform, has announced a holiday fundraising challenge - the organization that raises the most money will win $100,000! To offer you an incentive to assist NDSC in becoming the winning organization, we're giving away one free individual convention registration to everyone who raises $1,000 or more on the Crowdrise online giving site!

It's easy to be involved - all you have to do to get started is visit www.crowdrise.com/3-2-1Give and select "Fundraising for this Campaign".

Until January 9th, you can ask friends, family members and co-workers to donate to NDSC on your Crowdrise website. Everyone who is successful raising $1,000 or more will receive a free individual convention registration. We'd like to congratulate Regina Britt, who is the first person to successfully raise $1,000 on Crowdrise and win a free convention registration. Regina is donating her free registration to her local affiliate, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio.

Signing up on Crowdrise takes 5 minutes or less.  Need help?  Call Rebecca Davis at 770.604.9500 or email rebecca@ndsccenter.org

Convention Speaker Proposals

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are working hard to create another awesome program for our 2014 convention in Indianapolis! We'll be Setting the Pace from July 11 - 13, 2014, and we need a wide
range of speakers for both our Youth and Adults Conference and General Convention
program.
Youth and Adults Program
Our self advocate attendees enjoy interactive workshops that get people moving, thinking,
learning, and having fun. If you are a self advocate (or you know a self advocate) who
is an expert on a topic that others will find interesting, this is the place to share what you
know with your peers in a workshop or panel presentation.
Successful speakers in the past have presented on topics ranging from acting to Zumba and pretty much everything in between. You can find more ideas on our website. (Self advocates, discuss your ideas with someone you like to work with. Friends, parents, siblings, coaches and teachers all make good partners. Then just fill out the easy-to-complete speaker proposal form on our website.) If you have questions, contact Jean Beck at jean@ndsccenter.org.
General Convention
We are always proud to bring the best speakers to our convention each year. Don't miss this opportunity to be a presenter (or let your favorite speaker know about this awesome event). We look for experts in topics that cover the lifespan of individuals with Down syndrome, including health and medical concerns, positive behavior support, education (from pre-school to post-secondary), transition, employment, living options, friendships and social relationships, speech and communication, aging and much more.
Workshop proposals are being accepted on our convention website, so please pass this information along to everyone you know that might be interested. The deadline for submissions is January 3rd, so don't delay!!
HealthMeet: Input from Caregivers Needed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Arc is seeking caregiver views of the health status of the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) they support. If you or someone you know is a The Arc professional, paid, unpaid or family member caregiver of someone with I/DD, we invite you to take a short, confidential online assessment to help us collect valuable information about caregiver views of the health status of people with I/DD.

The information you provide as part of the assessment will be used to find out more about the role of caregivers and the health concerns that impact people with I/DD across the United States to help develop appropriate and accessible tools for ALL caregivers to use in the future to help promote the health of people with I/DD.

Take the survey at this link.
