Travels with NDSC President Jim Faber
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, NDSC President Jim Faber visited our affiliate, DSA of Memphis and the Mid-South. In addition to meeting with their board of directors, Jim visited White Station Elementary School in the Memphis City School district, and toured their inclusion program. It was a great visit and the district's regional superintendent committed to sending three staff members to our convention next summer!
Jim also visited a private school and had lunch with the local DADS group, where he was able to talk more about the NDSC and the work we are doing. A highlight of the trip included a visit to self advocate Keith Greenwald's home (yes, he's the homeowner), where he met Keith's roommates, as well as individuals from his support agency, West Tennessee Family Solutions.
Enjoy the pictures from this important trip. Where will Jim go next? We can't wait to see!
More Awareness from our Parent Group Affiliates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Shifting Perspectives" is an amazing photo exhibition curated by UK photographer Richard Bailey. For the second year, DSA of Central Ohio has partnered with the Dublin (OH) Arts Council, to bring Richard Bailey to the US for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. This year, the exhibition included photos by local photographers, capturing the joy and wonder of what it's like to be human - and living with Down syndrome. NDSC was able to attend the opening, meet some of the photographers and enjoy the photos in person. It was awesome!
