A Look at the Exhibitors Participating in the Conference...
It is always great to have exhibitors taking part in the conference, and this year we wanted to recognize them in advance so folks can have them in mind when the meeting arrives. As you'll see, it will be a varied bunch, but it just shows how diverse and opportunity-driven the Southwest region is. Next newsletter we'll highlight our gracious sponsors!
Alaska Humanities Forum & Aleutian "Lost Ledgers" Project
The Aleutian "Lost Ledgers" project collects six Alaska Commercial Company ledger books spanning 1875 to 1897. Chronicling the somewhat murky transitional period between the eras of Russian America and the Territory of Alaska, these historical artifacts contain a cultural recount of the people and times: Aleut hunters, village life in Chernofsky, and economic boom in Unalaska. The recovered Ledgers have been revitalized into Bringing Aleutian History Home: The Lost Ledgers of the Alaska Commercial Company.
First National Bank of Alaska
For the better part of a century, Alaskan owned and operated First National Bank Alaska has helped neighbors build strong families, homes and businesses. Their investment in Alaska has maximized the bank's efficiency and reliability while keeping support functions right here in the state. The company commemorated its 90th anniversary in 2012, and we are happy to welcome them again as an exhibitor!
High Tide Environmental & Exploration

High Tide Exploration's experience base is built on over a decade of collecting underwater video throughout remote regions of Alaska with a variety of drop-camera setups. In 2011, the transition to a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) was made to take advantage of enhanced photo and video capabilities as well as the ability to fly to underwater targets, remain on station, and work with small objects using the manipulator arm.

Paired with biological and ecological experience from High Tide Environmental, the ROV can be used for habitat and marine life applications and the video data can be interpreted and presented in a variety of report formats, assuring mission objective. High Tide is also a new SWAMC member.

Alaska Airlines
The roots of Alaska's flagship airline begin in 1932, when Mac McGee started flying his three-seat Stinson between Anchorage and Bristol Bay. A merger with Star Air Service in 1934 created the largest airline in Alaska. After several more mergers, the name was changed a couple of times until they found one that stuck: Alaska Airlines. For more than 75 years, Alaska Airlines and its people have been guided through thick and thin by a shared commitment to integrity, caring, resourcefulness, professionalism and spirit. Especially spirit - an Alaskan spirit, born in the land the airline is named after - a place where "can-do" and "neighbor-helping-neighbor" are facts of life.
Cooperative Extension Service - UAF
As the state's gateway to its university system, Extension serves some 80,000 Alaskans annually, providing a link between Alaska's diverse people and communities by interpreting and extending relevant university, research-based knowledge in an understandable and usable form to the public. Created in 1930 as a department within the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, their relationship with the university continues today within the Office of the Provost. Extension offers hundreds of publications, written and produced by university specialists, which contain practical information of interest to Alaska residents. Many publications are free and available online. We're pleased to welcome CES!
Alaska Energy Authority
The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) was created in 1976 by the Alaska Legislature. The Authority is a public corporation of the State with a separate and independent legal existence. AEA's original mission was to construct, acquire, finance, and operate power projects and facilities that utilize Alaska's natural resources to produce electricity and heat. The current mission of AEA is to reduce the cost of energy in Alaska. Every SWAMC should know AEA due to its various power funds and programs, and the Authority is now contracting with SWAMC to do regional energy planning in Southwest.

Highlighting SWAMC's efforts to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education in Southwest, we'll be showing off some of the projects that we're promoting in our region.  From rockets and robots to wind turbines and marine biology, we want to inspire students to consider futures in science and engineering.

Launched in July 2009, AKSourceLink is a community referral network that links small and emerging business owners in Alaska to local resource partners who offer services that help small businesses grow and prosper.

The AKSourceLink network consists of nonprofit organizations, university programs, and government agencies that provide resources to promote the success of small businesses in Alaska. The role of AKSourceLink is to connect entrepreneurs and small business owners to the resources they need when they need them, and began as a collaborative initiative of 16 economic development organizations with the common goal of promoting entrepreneurship across the state. We are happy to have them as a repeat exhibitor!
