Our Learning Coach Newsletter - July, 2015

Our Annual Get-Together is June 25th

June 25th is almost here. That's the date of our Third Academic Achievement Dinner. Hope to see you at this annual event.

Brenda Coles, our Executive Director is Leaving

Our long-time Executive Director, Brenda Coles is leaving Bethany Hope Centre for a new posting in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.

Under Major Coles' leadership, Bethany Hope Centre was transformed. After several long years of hard work and careful planning we moved from our outdated site on Wellington Street to our current, very modern and stylish new place here at 820 Woodroffe Ave.

A tree has been planted near the Bethany Hope Playground to commemorate the wonderful contribution that Brenda made to the success of the centre.

We wish you much success and happiness in your new position, Brenda.

OC Transpo Change in Service - June 28th

Many Learning Coach clients depend on OC Transpo to get to Bethany HC each day. That's why it's important for everyone to be aware of the latest schedule and travel changes that will go into effect on June 28th to accommodate the construction of the new Confederation line along the eastern portion transit way.

The best way to figure out how these changes will affect you is by using the travel planner posted on OC Transpo's web site. Just click here to connect to this handy service. Fill in the information requested and you'll soon receive a personalized trip plan to get you to your destination.

Summer brings relief from the high cost of fresh vegetables

We all know the expense and challenge of preparing healthy, tasty and quick meals for our families. That's why a free food preparation booklet from the City Ottawa may be just what you're looking for. This booklet entitled Everybody's Food Budget Book, contains useful and practical advice on how to stretch a food budget as well as a number of simple recipes that are both nutritious and easy to prepare.

Physical activity benefits all age groups

Being physically active every day is enjoyable and safe for most people. Health benefits of physical activity include improved fitness, strength and feeling better. The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology has produced an easy to read booklet that outlines suggested physical activities for all age groups. Please click here to read an online copy of this booklet.

Come, watch our garden grow

We've expanded our vegetable garden this year. We invite you to stop by during the season and watch our plants grow to maturity. We hope to have a bountiful harvest.

Free for our community to use and enjoy

Bethany Hope Centre's playground is now open for the use and enjoyment of children in our community with, of course, the usual warning that doing so is at your own risk.
