Composing and Drawing Tip of the Week.

May 17, 2014

Tips from the past two weeks have been about tangents.  I call tangents "space robbers" because they misguide our perception of spatial relationship between images.  Too often we see a beautifully executed painting with a sore thumb that many times is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

One that is particularly bothersome appears in each of the two photos below.  Can you spot it?

Here's a hint.  It appears in each of these photos, too.

You've probably spotted it by now.

Tip:  When composing a painting, make sure that apexes and verticals are not pointing toward each other or aligned one in front the other.

Happy painting,
Dianne

P. S.   On Monday, May 19 , watch for another group challenge on our Facebook forum.  Folks who participated in previous challenges have had fun with them.  My apologies for not posting a challenge last week.  I got too involved in the release of my new book.

P.P.S.  My new book, Finding Freedom to Create, has received an overwhelming response.  If you haven't check it out already, you can find it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
