Welcome to the AURA Newsletter!
|
AURA is pleased to present this month's newsletter recapping June's news and events to our most important supporters. It simply would not be possible to continue our work with refugees without your help as: refugee sponsors, volunteers, members, and/or donors.
June 16 - 23 marked Refugee Week and AURA was busy increasing awareness about refugee issues all month long with CBC radio interviews, a CTV television appearance and a social media campaign.

Around AURA this Month

The number of people forced to flee their homes across the world has exceeded 50 million for the first time since the second world war. The numbers from the UNHCR are truly frightening, as 51.2 million forcibly displace people are broken down into:
33.3 million Internally Displaced People
16.7 million Refugees
1.2 million Asylum Seekers
With such staggering numbers, we believe it is important that people have the facts when it comes to refugee issues. AURA's Sponsorship Director, Alexandra Kotyk, was on CBC Radio to set the record straight about the number of Syrians who've found asylum in Canada through refugee sponsorship.
Alexandra then appeared on CTV to discuss many refugee issues on World Refugee Day.
