Newsletter / May 2015

Spring has definitely sprung and with it, your Region 5 EPS is looking forward to the next few months heading into summer with wonderful training and higher education opportunities still available, our coaching cadre working with even more Educators to support them in meeting professional development achievements, and most importantly, we are working diligently to plan for FY16. Throughout the year, Educators have provided their input to the Region 5 EPS on our website; identifying professional development needs and supports. This information has been invaluable in assisting the SEEPP Partnership and administration through the year in identifying areas to improve or build upon.

As we prepare for FY16, we are asking you to kindly complete the Program and Services Survey at this LINK  to provide information concerning your specific individual and program goals, needs, educational pathways and other supports anticipated in the coming year.  Your feedback is instrumental in the successful administration of the EPS grant.  As our thank you for participation, we will enter your email into a drawing for 2 FREE .5 CEU's of your choice to be published on our FY16 calendar after July 1, 2015.  (a $30 value)  The drawing will be next Friday, May 15, 2015, so click the link today!

Enjoy these wonderful Spring time days!  We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Best regards,

QRIS Continuous Quality Improvement Plans (CQI)

The Continuous Quality Improvement Plan (CQIP) is a requirement for programs that are participating in the MA Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). This is also a requirement for programs that receive coaching or mentoring through the Educator and Provider Support (EPS) grant. Effective use of this tool will increase staff engagement in QRIS and will support improvement in programmatic services.

Use of this tool will also support advancement in the QRIS Standards:

Childhood Trauma and Its Impact on Development and Learning

This professional development opportunity for early childhood and out-of-school time professionals focuses on the neurological impact that both trauma and complex trauma has on the developing brain and how it affects learning. Dr. Marilyn Augustyn, a leading pediatrician with many years of experience in dealing with children exposed to trauma, describes the causes, types and neurological symptoms of trauma. Staff from the Federation for Children with Special Needs will share their experiences about the role families play in supporting their children exposed to trauma. During the afternoon concurrent sessions, participants will discuss the impact of complex trauma on learning of children at different developmental ages and will develop practical strategies to use supporting both children and their families. Real-life examples of children and families experiencing trauma will be shared and participants will problem solve how to support these children and families in their educational settings.

Please Note: Registration is limited to 50 participants per age group (Birth - 3, Age 3-5, and Age 5 -12).

There are no CEUs for this offering folks will be offered a certificate of attendance.
