Working to Keep Prescription Drugs Away from Our Youth

Village of Franklin Police Department and Bloomfield Hills Police Department each installed prescription drug drop boxes with the help of  Operation Medicine Cabinet and the Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition on Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, Chief Dan Roberts from Franklin PD & Chief David Hendrickson from Bloomfield Hills PD attended the ceremonies.

"Addiction is a family disease, and it's progressive," said Lisa Kaplan, education program director for Maplegrove Center and Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities Board member. "Early intervention is the key. Young people need to know they will never become addicted if they don't start using."

In this article, Julie Buckner, a West Bloomfield mother who lost her son Josh to an overdose, describes the events leading up to his death.  Ms. Buckner is also scheduled to speak at a Greater West Bloomfield Community Coalition event on February 11th, 2015.


North Oakland Community Coalition
Hosts Prayer Breakfast  

North Oakland Community Coalition held their 5th Annual Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 10th at the beautiful Scripps Mansion, in Lake Orion.  Among the guest speakers were Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett, the Honorable Judge Nancy Carniak of 52/3 District Court, Lake Orion Schools Superintendent Marion Ginopolis, and keynote speaker Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. 






Drugs 101: What Parents Want to Know


Saint Joseph Mercy Health System partnered with NOCC for an informative educational program designed to teach parents about the signs, symptoms, and current trends in teen drug use.  The highlight of the program was a "teen room" display with over 60 items that can be a warning sign of teen drug or alcohol use.    
Bloomfield Hills High School Awareness Day

Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition teamed up with the staff of Bloomfield Hills High School and Families Against Narcotics (FAN) for Awareness Day on December 9, 2014. They were joined by clinical psychologist Dr. Susie Gross, and keynote speaker David Clayton of FAN. Both spoke about their personal stories and experiences surrounding substance abuse. Students and parents were able to discuss substance abuse, peer pressure, and available resources in the area.

YAB's hosted their annual Winter Battle of the Bands on Friday, January 16th at the First Baptist Church of Birmingham.
