Families Against Narcotics Launches New Oakland County Partnership

Families Against Narcotics, in partnership with the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities, launched a county-wide chapter last month which will offer meetings in six regions spread throughout the county.

The ACHC and FAN work together to bring awareness of the growing problem of prescription drug and opiate misuse within Oakland County, as well as provide recovery and support resources for individuals and families struggling with addiction.

The Be the Solution Prevent Youth Prescription Drug Misuse toolkit, released in October 2014, further supports prevention efforts across the county already championed by the 15 community prevention coalitions it serves. A copy of the toolkit is available online at Be the Solution Toolkit.

Shop with a Hero
The Waterford Coalition for Youth partners each year with the Waterford Police Department to support local Waterford students at SHOP WITH A HERO. Students in need of all ages have the opportunity to shop with a Police Officer for the holidays. It is not unusual to witness these caring children purchasing basic necessities and always items for siblings, parents and pets first. It is heartwarming to witness them being so generous toward others. Coalition volunteers then wrap the items up for the children while they enjoy snacks, crafts and a visit with Santa himself!

If you would like to make a donation to the cause to help support a child in need, please send your check, payable to the Waterford Coalition for Youth - 5150 Civic Center Drive, Waterford, MI 48329. All donations need to be received by December 5.
