We are pleased to announce our 2014 Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed sale dates! There will be 175 Angus sales at 61 auctions. Please plan to attend at least one sale to support your commercial customers and promote your breed.

What an awesome time to be involved in the cattle business.   Calf prices are looking excellent for this fall, cull prices for bulls and cows are at an all time high, and all indications show this trend should last for a while!

As your Southern Alberta Angus Club we have been extremely active in promoting the Angus breed.  This year we are very happy to sponsor an Angus Field Day.  This will be held on Saturday August 9th at the Domolewski Sale barn, one mile east of Taber.  Several of our SAAC members will have their cattle on display. See Angus genetics from Southern Alberta that are second to none of anything you will see.  It will include an informal presentation by Jim Palmer of Quantum Genetix on DNA testing for disease and performance genes, as well as Q-Link, a parentage test for the commercial breeder, an afternoon of Angus hospitality and round the day off with a great Angus steak supper.  Talk to anyone of our board members to be able to display cattle or register for the event, there is no fee for the day, but we do need the RSVP to organize the supper.

This year's 29th Annual Chinook Angus Sale will be held at the Taber Agri-Plex on Wednesday October 29th.  Selection for the sale will start in August.  Contact any board member about consignments or inquiries into the sale.  A hugh thank you to Abacus Angus, Dan Hitchner and Megan Bond for this years' donation heifer. The donation heifer is the major source of the club's fundraising so please be sure to get your ticket or tickets.  Not only are you assisting in keeping the SAAC very active and viable, but you will have a chance to win an awesome Angus heifer!  More details to follow.

SAAC is a strong advocate of youth in agriculture and with that each year we financially support the Chinook Jr. Stock Show in Claresholm held during the Easter break, and the Taber Jr. Livestock Show held the following Saturday after the Chinook Angus Sale.  The club also supports the Alberta Jr. Angus show in Bashaw in August, and the calendar sales for the Canadian Junior Angus.  The Medicine Hat Pen Show, held each year in December is another recipient of financial support from SAAC, a show that involves both the Purebred breeders and the commercial rancher.

This year the club is organizing a Purebred Angus purchase credit for all our club members.  For $100 investment you will enter 20 names into the hat.  In December, with the entries made, and a contribution from SAAC we will draw names for $1000 certificates towards the purchase of a registered Angus Female or Male.  We are hoping to draw 4 - 6 certificates. The purchase can ONLY be made from the breeders who invested the $100.  All advertising that is done, whether at auction marts, steak fries, emails, facebook etc, will list all participating breeders.  So be sure to get in early as to get as much advertising as possible.  Stay tune for more information.

Your yearly membership fee of $20 helps support all these activities and keeps SAAC as the most active cattle club in Alberta.  Check out our facebook page for a membership form or email us at southernalbertaangusclub@gmail.com if you have not had a chance to send it in for 2014.  As a member you are entitled to send us your  messages, ie bull sale, heifer sale, private treaty, etc, that you would like us to forward on the all our SAAC followers.

This year's AGM will be held in Lethbridge in December, final arrangements are being made now, stay tune for all the details.
