CAA NEWS
Angus Central Grand Opening

After three years of planning and preparation, the Canadian Angus
Association (CAA) officially opened their first member-owned national headquarters, Angus
Central. While the Association moved to many provinces, Angus Central, located just north of
Calgary, is the first building owned by the Association.

More than 200 Angus members, vendors to the Association and industry partners were in
attendance as the doors opened to this exciting new building. An official ribbon cutting by the
CAA Board of Directors was a highlight.

Permanent Female Genotyping Extension to March 31, 2014

The Deadline for female permanent genotyping has been extended from December 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2014.

Permanent genotyping is for productive females in preparation for changes to the Parentage Verification Policy: herd sires born on or after January 1st, 2015 must be parent verified (to both sire and dam). We are offering special pricing of $5 per test; please contact us to request your kits. Samples must be submitted to the lab before March 31st, 2014.

Permanent typing simply entails receiving DNA for females and keeping it on file in order to be able to dam verify future calves. This test does not include parent verification of the female herself (SNP parent verification tests are still available for $12/test until March 31st, 2014).

2014 Membership Renewals will be Mailed in January

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper that the CAA sends, we will be mailing 2014 membership renewal packages with herd inventory packages in late January. You can renew your membership starting January 2 by contacting the office.

New Video: DNA Sampling Test

CAA has launched a new YouTube video to help you gather samples for DNA testing. The video has tips for pulling and submitting tail hair, collecting and submitting tissue samples and for submitting semen samples.
