Industry Shares Ideas and Perspectives during Rancher Endorsed Day
More than 140 Canadian Angus Association members joined industry leaders in
Guelph, Ontario, for the second annual Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed day on Friday, June 7 as part of the Canadian Angus National Convention. The day began with an industry panel of speakers featuring Mike Beretta of Beretta Organic Farms, Steve Eby of JSE Farms, Dave Ropp of Ontario Livestock Exchange, Matt Heleniak of Norwich Packers and Dr. Rob Bell of Zoetis, previously Pfizer.

Building the Legacy for the Foundation
The second Canadian Angus Foundation (CAF) Building the Legacy sale produced big money for the Canadian Angus Foundation last Saturday during the Canadian
Angus National Convention in Guelph, Ontario. The sale was initiated last year to support the
CAF in preserving and expanding the Angus breed for future generations through education,
youth development, scientific and market research and historical restoration.
Generous donors contributed 48 lots of Angus semen and embryos, an impressive heifer pick
of the herd, and artwork to be auctioned off raising a grand total of $70,800.

Executive Elected for the Canadian Angus Association
Canadian Angus Association members gathered in Guelph, Ontario, June 5-10 for the 2013 Canadian Angus National Convention. The Board of Directors affirmed Kevin Blair as president for 2013-2014.
Corinne Gibson of Fir Mountain, Saskatchewan, who was chosen as President Elect, will support Blair in this role.

Fifty Year CAA Heritage Award Presented to Ebon Hill Angus
The Canadian Angus Association introduced 50-year awards to
recognize those breeders who have been a member of the Association for 50 consecutive years. The inaugural awards were presented in 1998 and since then, 132 breeders have joined this elite group. Joining this group for 2013 is Ebon Hill Angus, Roger & Jo Hillestad of Bow Island, AB.
Eight other families were also recognized as 50 Year CAA Heritage Award winners including - Heber and Lavigne Adams and Family, Ontario; Clangour Angus,
Alberta; Durness Angus, Alberta; Foundation Stock Farm, Nova Scotia; Rainbow Hills Ranch, Alberta; Burt and Jo Shantz - Needmore Angus, Alberta; and Two C Angus, Alberta.

Lorenz Wins Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador Competition
The Canadian Angus Foundation is pleased to congratulate the winner of the 2013 Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador, Chad Lorenz of Markerville, Alberta. The award was presented at the Canadian Angus National Convention on Saturday, June 8.
The Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador program selects one Canadian Junior Angus Association
member to be an ambassador for the Canadian Angus Association at events across Canada and one
international experience. Four other CJAA members competed for the award. Erin Toner of Kelfield,
Saskatchewan; Kaitlynn Bolduc of Stavely, Alberta; Michael Hargrave of Maxwell, Ontario; and Kelsey
Ribey of Paisley, Ontario, all deserve recognition for their impressive efforts in the competition.

Dick Turner Scholarship Awarded to Becky Domolewski
Canadian Angus Association members gathered in Guelph, Ontario, over the weekend for the 2013 Canadian Angus National Convention. The Canadian Angus Foundation announced Becky Domolewski of Taber, Alberta, as the second winner of the Dick Turner Memorial Scholarship after the inauguration of the $1,000 award last summer.
The Dick Turner Memorial Award was established after the passing of legendary Angus icon Dick
Turner in July of 2010. During his lifetime, Dick committed 55 years of his career to livestock
publishing and successfully promoted and advertised the Angus breed specifically through the
Canadian Aberdeen Angus News magazine. It was Dick's ability to foster relationships that led to his
successful tenure. Dick was a hard worker and recognized the quality of life and relationships as the
most rewarding part of his job.

A Message from Farmfair International
November 3-10, 2013 Edmonton, Alberta Northlands is one of Canada's oldest and most established agriculture societies and produces many events including a premier Canadian agriculture showcase: Farmfair International (FFI). From genetics and livestock to the latest in equipment, this show is a one-stop marketplace for producers and the industry.
Each year, guests come to Farmfair International to view, show and sell top quality livestock , including over 15 purebred beef breeds and commercial cattle. 2013 marks the 40th Anniversary for the show and will be the proud host of the Canadian National Angus Show.
International Program
As part of the International Program at FFI, international buyers and industry representatives have the opportunity to participate in the Inbound Buyer Program and become an International AgBusiness Centre member (IABC).
Through the Inbound Buyer Program, FFI coordinates with Canadian breeders and genetics companies to support international buyers in their travel and attendance at the show. The program also offers customized support and access to specialized itineraries including a farm and industry tour day, invitations to special beef-related events and pre and post show tour support. There is an opportunity to apply for funding support through the program partners, visit farmfairinternational.com to apply.

On July 19th the Southern Alberta Angus Club is holding their 10th annual golf tournament in Taber. With our corporate sponsor Milliken Farm Supplies, this year EVERY GOLFERS name will be entered to win a New Holland Rustler!!
Golf ability has nothing to do with it you just have to enter, come out and enjoy a great day of fellowship, a chance to win several fantastic prizes, and a superb supper. This is a very relaxed tourney, with several non-golfers and fun to be had by all.

Welcome sunshine and green grass! Congratulations to Ontario for hosting a successful 2013 CAA Convention. The sessions were fabulous and very interesting...it was great to see the variance in ages of the participants and the new ideas brought forth. The mingling of the youth at the convention created a fleury of excitement. We look forward to Moose Jaw and anyone that hasn't been to the CAA Convention this year or last since the format has changed to include the Rancher Endorsed Day...it is a MUST to mark for next year! We invite you to come out and support our youth this summer at the many shows that they have...the largest ones being: Summer Synergy July 12 @ 9 am in Olds CJAA Showdown in Armstrong July 27 @ 10 am in Armstrong, BC Alberta Junior Angus Show August 13 @ 9 am in Bashaw Canadian Junior All Breeds August 17 @ 10 am in Bashaw Mark your calendar to join us after the Alberta Junior Angus Show August 13 in Bashaw for the Annual AAA AGM, come out and voice your concerns, then stay for supper and help us honor our "Hall of Fame" recipients. It will be a great day! The 40th Anniversary of Farmfair is this fall and the AAA will be hosting their Gold Show & it will be the National Angus Show as well.
