Through November 16th at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street).  The show took home 2 Tonys - Best Sound Design and Jessie Mueller won for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

I experienced the most amazing New York evening when I saw Cabaret at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street). Both Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams are show-stoppers, and the Kit-Cat band is superb!  A magnificent revival, extended through the end of the year.

It's that time again!  Next week I'll write about my top picks.

NEW:

Barchetta

461 West 23rd Street (at 10th Avenue)

Italian Cuisine

The name implies little boat in Italian.   As you enter this Chelsea spot, the atmosphere captures the style of a Mediterranean seaside.  A true Italian seafood trattoria, founded by the former chef of Esca.  The Sea Scallops are one of my top recommendations.  Make sure you sample one of the daily made fresh pastas.

Cherche Midi

282 Bowery (at Houston Street)

French Cuisine

Another Keith McNally success, although I was a bit skeptical since I was a frequent patron of the former Paulino that was housed in the Lower East Side space for many years.  Named after a Left Bank street where he once lived in Paris, McNally has created an atmosphere of vintage looks which include comfortable red banquettes. There are many French brasserie favorites such as Steak Frites.  Save room for their specialty dessert... Crepe Suzette!

NOTABLE:

200 West 70th Street (at Broadway)

French-American Cuisine

A great spot before or after an evening at Lincoln Center. The quintessential neighborhood bistro, and an Upper West Side landmark. This French American bistro serves an unparalleled menu that changes seasonally.  Unpretentious service and reasonable prices. The Char Grilled Chicken and Moule Frites are two of my top entrees.

Campagnola

1382 First Avenue (73rd & 74th Street)

Italian Cuisine

One of the best Italian dining spots in the city.   Exceptional food and attentive service. If you love Italy as much as I do, you'll feel right at home here. A country feel with rustic furnishings and hearty dishes. Although I try to vary my selections, I often choose the Veal Milanese, which is outstanding!   As an added feature, it's great for people watching and star gazing!

SPECIAL FEATURE... Summer GetawaysFeature

Hudson Merchant House

Hudson, NY (120 miles North of NYC)

When Martha Stewart gave this inn a thumbs up, I knew that I needed to book a stay.  A gorgeous boutique Bed & Breakfast, the boutique inn offers a sophisticated country experience in the center of the quaint town of Hudson.  The 1770s house has been completely renovated... a perfect blend of past and present surrounded by quaint vintage shops, cool cafés, and gastropubs.

The Lodge at Woodloch

Their farm-to-table culinary experience is outstanding, along with their spa experiences. Visit the website for exclusive seasonal packages. It is one of America's oldest family owned resorts. 85 miles of hiking trails, golf, mountain biking, tennis, carriage rides, rock climbing, a Barn Museum, and their award-winning spa.

North Fork Table & Inn

Southold, NY (90 miles East of NYC)

Situated in a historic whaling village on the North Fork. A year round detour founded by NYC ex-pats serving classic American cuisine with fresh seasonal dishes. Besides stops at wineries such as The Lenz Winery and Croteaux Vineyards, the area offers kayaking, golfing and biking... a variety of ways to enjoy the autumnal landscape.

The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls

Beacon, NY (60 miles North of NYC)

Easily accessible by car or train, is the picturesque town of Beacon, New York.  Both the sleeping rooms and the dining experience at the Roundhouse get my approval. We ate at Swift Restaurant, where locally inspired, seasonal menus and artisanal cocktails are offered. Al fresco dining overlooks the Fishkill Creek Waterfall.  Walk around the town's many shops, markets, galleries and restaurants.  Don't miss an afternoon visit to the famous  Dia: Beacon contemporary art museum that occupies the old Nabisco factory.  The Dia Art Foundation displays collections from the 1960's to the present.

Shinn Estate Farmhouse

Mattituck, NY (90 miles east of NYC)

A perfect weekend getaway... located in a historic 1880's homestead in the center of North Fork, you'll experience, as I did, the quiet of the country while enjoying the splendor of lodging and a world class winery. The owners enjoy both the country and city life. Visit their restaurant Home in Greenwich Village.

Winvian

Morris, CT (90 miles NE of NYC)

An extraordinary getaway amidst 113 acres, housed in a Relais & Chateaux Hotel and beautifully appointed cottages with unique themes (like the Treehouse, Beaver Lodge, and Log Cabin). Experience outstanding cuisine, and indulge in spa treatments, along with an array of seasonal activities. I enjoyed it all, and took time to relax in their spa! Stop by nearby Kent... a quaint New England Village - a town with magnificent scenery, art galleries, shops and restaurants.
