For the Foodie... The East Village
Here are 3 new on the scene restaurants in the East Village... a neighborhood of artistic sensibility, vibrant nightlife, and eclectic dining.
Adler New American Cuisine
157 Second Avenue
(Between 9th & 10th Streets)
A modern version of a bygone public house (known today as a gastropub). Although the cuisine is casual, it's excellent! Favorites are their American classics of Salmon Tartare and smoked Arctic Char. Desserts are unique (think Root Beer Pudding). Beyond the dining experience, Alder offers an extensive selection of wines and cocktails. Its minimalist decor and seating for 56 creates a comfortable atmosphere. They're now serving brunch and I'm intrigued by the Bloody Mary Popcorn that they'll be serving!
Circolo45
Italian Cuisine
45 Bond Street
(Between Lafayette Street & Bowery)
On one of my favorite blocks in the city, Bond Street, sit two of my favorite restaurants: Il Buco, an established restaurant in the city, and a new on the scene... Circolo45. If you translate in Italian, the name means "cicle and club". It is a chic trattoria specializing in Italian cuisine and a perfect spot to meet friends. Their Tuscan chef bakes fresh bread and pastas daily. From the charcuterie bar to their Ribollita Soup and Cacio e Pepe, you'll leave saying, that's Italian! A welcome addition to this trendy area.
Lafayette Grand Cafe & Bakery
French Cuisine
380 Lafayette Street
(At Bleecker Street)
Another Andrew Carmellini success (chef and owner of Locanda Verde) in the East Village. French country cooking at its finest. A gran Parisian café that tempts you with a pastry shop as you enter. Try the Charcuterie board, Frisee Salad and Steak Frites and save room for a sweet dessert. Their French market driver bistro menu is one of the best in the city!
