February 28, 2014

In this Edition:

Weekly Snapshot

In a short time this year, we have already experienced so many memorable events. A local Super Bowl, The Grammy Awards, Fashion Week, Valentine's Day, and President's Day have all come and gone and February is soon coming to a close.

But this Sunday is one of my favorites of the year:  the 86th Annual Academy Awards
!
The night promises to have plenty of Oscar surprises, fashion glitz and glamour (along with a few faux pas), speeches that will move you to tears, and with Ellen hosting... plenty of laughs.

So, I wanted to focus my Special Feature on this great ceremony.

Enjoy!

WHO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING...

The ladies of American Hustle
Jennifer Lawrence is the new 'it' girl, so expectations are high.
Amy Adams hit a grand slam with her dress at the Golden Globes - here's to a double header!

Cate Blanchett always looks dazzlingly sophisticated.

Barkhad Abdi - limo driver turned actor - he's sure to clean up well for his first Oscar show.

Leonardo DiCaprio - will this be his year? Either way, he's sure to look good.

Will Bradley Cooper bring his mom again?

Ellen!

She's coming back and I can't wait to laugh out loud once again with her return...

MY AWARD PREDICTIONS...

Here are my picks in the main categories:

Best Supporting Actress to go to Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle.
This would make her the 3rd actress in history to win back-to-back Oscars (Louise Rainer and Katherine Hepburn were the others).

Best Supporting Actor to go to Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club.
He IS taking his mom to the Oscars this year!

Cate Blanchette for Blue Jasmine or Meryl Streep for August Osage County to win Best Actress.
By winning the Oscar for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn (The Aviator), Kate became the first person to give an Oscar-winning portrayal of a previous Oscar winner.  This would be Meryl's 4th Oscar.

Best Actor?

Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club or (dare I say?) Leonardo DiCaprio for Wolf of Wall Street.

Matthew ate a s
poonful of pudding a day to lose 47 pounds for this role.
Leo has only been nominated 4 times for an Oscar even though he's been in the acting world for over 20 years!

David O. Russell to win Best Director for American Hustle. Or will Scorsese win his 2nd for Wolf of Wall Street?
Russell Was nominated in 2011 for The Fighter and last year for Silver Linings Playbook. Maybe 3rd time's a charm?

12 Years a Slave to take home the big award... Best Picture

This would mimic the Golden Globes again!
