General Events...
Columbia's Astronomy Department offers free monthly public stargazing in the top of historic Pupin Hall. Pupin, a registered National Landmark, is still one of the best places in Manhattan to observe the stars. Start with a 30-minute lecture, then spend 90 minutes viewing the stars through telescopes.
October 25 to 27 Giorgio Armani presents 'Eccentrico' Giorgio Armani staged his "One Night Only New York" at SuperPier on October 24th to show his most recent collection. The public exhibit, Eccentrico, includes an installation of clothing and accessories, a journey through the imagination to explore cultural connections and artistic symbols.
Through October 27 A Maker's Market Presented by Design Within Reach, BKLYN Designs, and Industry City - a pop-up shop of local furniture makers and designers. Home furnishings and housewares. There will be DJs and food trucks there as well so you can eat while you shop.
Florentine leather atelier, showcases her collections at the Plaza Athenee's Thai Suite from 10am to 5pm.

Third annual month-long festival of architecture and design. The activities, programs and exhibition are so vast that I can't pick my favorites. Peruse their calendar and select those of interest.

October 25 The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the CatwalkJean Paul Gaultier opens his only East coast exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. Gaultier's exquisite and detailed garments are inspired by beauty and diversity of global cultures. Afterward, stop at Saul for a bite to eat... newly re-opened casual dining spot at the museum. Through February 23. Through October 25
October 29 19th Annual ARTWALK NY
Art auction sponsored by Dolce & Gabbana at 82 Mercer Street, 100% of proceeds go to the Coalition for the Homeless. I've gone the past few years and it is a wonderful event. This year there will be restaurant tastings by celebrity chefs.
Through January 19 Masterpieces of Dutch Painting from the Mauritshuis The final American stop of the global tour of paintings from the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis (The Hague, the Netherlands). While the prestigious Dutch museum undergoes a 2-year renovation, it is lending masterpieces that haven't traveled in 30 years. A selection of 15 paintings on display at the Frick Collection will include the iconic Girl with a Pearl Earring. Through April 23 Kandinsky in Paris, 1934-1944This exhibit displays at the Guggenheim Museum displays Kandinsky's works over the last 11 years of his life. A fantastic exhibit for Kandinsky lovers like me!

Through October 27 San Francisco Ballet
At the David Koch Theater. Having seen this ballet ensemble, I can assure you that you will enjoy the performances by the oldest professional ballet company.
Through November 3 Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty
Matthew Bourne's rendition at New York City Center is produced by New Adventures Company. Bourne takes liberties with this rewrite of a classic tale.
Through November 23 White Light Festival Complimentary events at Lincoln Center throughout the month to lighten your soul... abstract musical events that illuminate our lives. Featured performance at Café Carlyle through November 23rd.
October 30 American Ballet Theatre The fall season officially opens at David H. Koch Theater. November 1 The New York Pops An all-swing program at Carnegie Hall, featuring a tribute to the 75th anniversary of Benny Goodman's live recording at Carnegie Hall.

Watch a food film, then eat the food in the film! Gives new meaning to "dinner and a movie."

At the Morgan Library & Museum... A German band, German beer, German food. The only thing missing is the lederhosen!
October 27 New Amsterdam Market One of my favorite markets returns with a gathering of fisheries.

As if you need another excuse to dress your dog up. Sweaters, booties, jewel collars... costumes aren't that far-'fetched'! Winners will be announced every 30 minutes and 'Best in Show' wins a new ipod... but the fun is just going and seeing all of the dogs dressed in funny costumes - pirates, Superman, Jackie O, sailors.
October 31 40th Annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade An annual staple in the city... 6th Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street from 7-10:30pm. Millions of people come from all across the globe for this amazing celebration of Halloween. October 31 Museum of Natural History Halloween CelebrationTrick-or-treat among the dinosaurs... Not only that, the museum has roaming characters, live performances and pumpkin carving. SATISFY YOUR SWEET TOOTH Who said candy is not for adults? These candy shops have everything from Dried Fruit and Nuts to old fashioned candy of the past and present... Pez, Bubble Gum Cigarettes, Candy Buttons.
DRESS UP
What will be the top costumes this year? Minions, Miley Cyrus, perhaps Jay Gatsby and other '20s characters. I haven't chosen my costume yet, and it's not too late!
GET SPOOKEDMy favorite part about Halloween is all the scary and eery possibilities. With a city as historic as NYC, here are a few opportunities for some real fright!
Boo! Short Play and Musical Festival 2013 Through October 27, works from thirteen unique playwrights present their own unique brand of Halloween horror, as a short play. At The Players Theatre.
Merchant's House Museum - 29 East 4th Street
Check out their calendar of frightful events in October and November. From ghost stories to physic talks and a funeral reenactment... I'm scared just thinking about it! I've been on their Candlelight Ghost Tour and I would certainly do it again. Just don't go alone!
The Ghosts of Greenwich Village Scavenger HuntWatson Adventures has a number of great NYC tours, but this one is especially eerie. With a flashlight in hand, you visit 'haunted' buildings and secret cemeteries while learning the stories of these ghosts; Mark Twain, Thomas Paine, and Edgar Allan Poe to name a few.
