August 17 Summer Streets 
From 7am to 1pm, Park Avenue will be cleared from Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park so you can enjoy free activities such as biking, rock climbing and yoga. 

  

August 19  HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival

The final movie of this year's festival will be E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, a true classic.    

 

August 21  Picnic by Design

An urban picnic and outdoor movie in SoHo at the Scholastic Building Rooftop Atrium. As an added treat, picnic baskets for two are designed by New York Talents. The event benefits DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS).

 

The event at the W Hotel New York will be an evening of great food and drinks as a kickoff to the US Open.  There's still time to get great seats for the games!

 

The opening movie will be a classic... West Side Story. This contrasts with the Oscar-nominated movie Silver Linings Playbook, which will be featured on Saturday.

American Modern: Hopper to O'Keeffe

At Museum of Modern Art through January, the exhibit showcases American art from 1915 to 1950.

 

Through September 1  I, You, We

At the Whitney Museum, this exhibit is fabulous and features art from the 1980s and 90s and the personal and social issues surrounding them.

 

Through October 31  URBAN FABRIC: Building New York's Garment District

A pop-up exhibit in the Garment District (1411 Broadway) for the Skyscraper Museum, it is free and presents the architecture and urban history of the Garment District.

August 17 and 18  Jazz Age Lawn Party

On Governors Island, an annual Gatsby-esque soiree featuring food, drinks, and live music - Michael Arenella and the Dreamland Orchestra.


Each Sunday, enjoy live music during your meal. This week, The Avalon Jazz Band will perform.  Also, every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Mezzanine Bar, see new and emerging jazz performers while enjoying cocktails and light bites. Starts at 7:30pm. 

August 21 to 25  Charlie Parker Jazz Festival

Annual festival kicks off in Harlem and heads downtown to Tompkins Square Park. 

 

Through August 24  Mostly Mozart 

An annual festival of concerts, opera performances, late-night recitals, and world premieres.
