August 10 Summer Streets 

From 7am to 1pm, Park Avenue will be cleared from Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park so you can enjoy free activities such as biking, rock climbing and yoga. There will even be a zip line at Foley Square! Also August 17.

Second Annual Philanthropic Benefit Brunch 

Get tickets for this event to benefit Cancer Survivors and Caregivers at Tian at the Riverbank.  

 

August 10  PTB Beach Volleyball Tournament

The first tournament on Coney Island, men's and women's teams compete for cash prizes.

An annual tradition in Queens to celebrate the 5th moon of the lunar calendar... taste Chinese foods, listen to Chinese entertainment, and watch 120 dragon boat teams compete for prizes.

Through August 18 Gravity and Grace:  

Monumental Works by El Anatsui 

The first solo exhibition in NYC for El Anatsui, it features his sculptures.

 

Through August 18  Search for the Unicorn:    

An Exhibition in Honor of   

The Cloisters' 75th Anniversary 

Given by John D. Rockefeller Jr. at the opening of The Cloisters in 1938, the Unicorn Tapestries are its best-known masterpieces. This exhibition of 40 works of art drawn from the collections of the Metropolitan, sister institutions, and private collections. I will be visiting this exhibit before it ends, as this is one of my favorite museums!

 

Through September 22 A Different Kind of Order   

At the International Center of Photography, the exhibit includes artwork created by 20 international artists, expressing economic, social and political instability.

Le Corbusier: An Atlas of Modern Landscapes 

At the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibit showcases the visionary Le Corbusier's work as an architect, interior designer, artist, city planner, writer, and photographer.

 

Through November 16  RetroSpective

At the Museum of FIT, the exhibit explores fashion's relationship with its own history. Featuring more than 100 garments, accessories, and textiles showing the relationship between past and present.

August 10  One Republic

As part of Live on Pier 26, a free outdoor concert series. Get there early, this will be a popular one featuring One Republic, Maya Hawthorne, and Serena Ryder! 

  

August 10   Warm Up 2013 Music Series at PS1
Every Saturday through September 7, outdoor music series features experimental live music and DJs. 
 
Each Sunday, enjoy live music during your meal. This week, The Avalon Jazz Band will perform.  Also, every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Mezzanine Bar, see new and emerging jazz performers while enjoying cocktails and light bites. Starts at 7:30pm.

Moondance 
Sundays at Pier 84 (at West 44th Street), you can learn to dance for free, care of Dance Manhattan! This weekend features Swing with David Berger Jazz Orchestra, followed by live music, sponsored by City Winery.   

  

August 11 to 15  32nd Annual Downtown Dance Festival

At Battery Park's Main Stage, the festival features performances from around the world.

  

August 13  Jazz Tuesday Series at Brassiere Beaumarchais 

On Tuesdays, enjoy delicious French food while listening to both French and American live Swing Jazz music.

  

August 13  1st Annual Hot Strings Fest  

At City Winery's After-Work Backyard Barbeque, a free concert presented by the Hudson Square Music and Wine Festival. 

  

August 15  Broadway in Bryant Park 

Every Thursday, visit the park for performances from Broadway's very best  shows... this Thursday will be from shows such as  Once and Forever Tango.  

    

 

Through August  Under the Greenwood Tree 

A one-act musical re-imaging of Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It."  A celebration of love, life and all of the things you can find when you're lost in the woods! Presented at the Flea Theater, a hidden jewel in Tribeca.

An annual festival of concerts, opera performances, late-night recitals, and world premieres.
