June 21  Solstice in Times Square

Tranquility in the midst of the world's most frenetic place; from 43rd to 48th Streets, yoga enthusiasts come together to participate in an all-day yoga fest.

    

June 21 & 22  Dockside Historic Ship Tours 

At Pier 25 in Tribeca, a perfect event for the entire family.

 

June 22  The Mermaid Parade     

Support the rebuilding of Coney Island at the largest parade in the nation. The parade signifies the opening of summer with incredible art, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Note that the new start time is 1pm.

June 23  New Amsterdam Market
Visit the returned market this Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Our Seaport District is rebounding and needs the support of New Yorkers.
     

CulturalCultural Pursuits...   
 
At the American Folk Art Museum.  Bill Traylor, one of the most recognized self-taught artists of the 20th century, showcases his exhibit consisting of 63 drawings and paintings. 


June 21  James Turrell

At the Guggenheim Museum it's James Turrell's first exhibit in a New York museum since 1980.  Focusing on the artist's groundbreaking exploration of perception, light color and space. Through September 25.

 
 
June 25  Fashion Jewelry:  The Collection of Barbara Berger
Exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design.  Featuring over 450 pieces of fashion jewelry by designers like Balenciaga. Through January 2014.

Live, free music celebrations in the city; over 1,000 street concerts and park events on the longest day of the year.

THE EXPLORERS CLUB 
The Manhattan Theater Club's world premiere.  Madcap comedy by an exceptional comedic cast. Tony nominated writer of Legally Blonde. 

Through June 30  Venice
This electrifying new musical, part epic romance, part political tale, has been extended at the Public Theater.

Through June 30  Music with a View
Free music festival at The Flea Theater devoted to the discovery of new, fresh sound created by contemporary musicians.  Each event features works of 2-3 emerging artists. 
 
June 22  Tropfest 
World's largest short film festival is making its move from Manhattan to Brooklyn's Prospect Park.  Event hosted by one of my favorite actors and directors, Liev Schreiber.  

 
June 25
  Steve Martin
The funnyman partners with Steep Canyon Rangers at The Town Hall... part of their nationwide tour.




June 25 through July 13  Midsummer Night Swing

25th anniversary of this Lincoln Center Festival.  Check the calendar and buy your tickets to any of the amazing outdoor music and dance events.

  Keren Ann
Parisian singer, songwriter, and composer, Keren Ann, performs at City Winery.

June 27 to 29
New York Philharmonic's A Dancer's Dream 
Two works by Stravinsky.  Ballet blends music, dance, puppetry, circus and theater into a fantastical dream world.

Learn pasta making from the experts!  Giovanni Rana's pasta class, incorporating summer produce will be divine.  
I can attest to eating at this restaurant in the Chelsea Market many times, and look forward to taking this class.  As an added bonus, recipes will be given!  

 

June 26 through July 6  Italian DINE OUT - NYC

Celebrate this week and the forthcoming  Independence Day week at some of New York's best Italian restaurants,  featuring reasonably priced prix fixe menus.
