Dear Member,

A great sign of what's to come is the recent announcement of the LIRR's Cannonball Train. Starting Memorial Day weekend, Friday afternoon departures will get you from Penn Station to Montauk... from concrete to sand in 90 minutes.

In addition to the coming week's events, I've included my favorite outdoor (al fresco) dining spots! Taste great food while enjoying the warmer spring weather.

Take a peek at this week's extra... the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. We've come a long way, but there's still more that can be done to take care of our planet.

Each week, look forward to my personal snapshot of recommendations to get you through a New York minute, day, night, or weekend. My weekly updates will take you from this Friday to the next!

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

FeatureAl Fresco Dining...

11 West 31st Street (5th & 6th Ave)
What's better than chocolate and wine and assorted small plates... voted as one of the best NYC date spots. For Jacques Torres fans, you'll be in heaven with their desserts and drink offerings.

Back Forty (East Village)
190 Avenue B (at 12th St)
Farm to table organic restaurant with a burger joint at its core. Whether you prefer the privacy of a quaint backyard garden or the buzz of seats on the sidewalk, outdoor dining at Back Forty is the perfect combination.

Central Park Boathouse (Upper East Side)
East 72nd Street in Central Park
Grab a glass of Prosecco and enjoy a scenic gondola ride in this iconic setting amidst Central Park.  A haven for romantic and nature lovers, it is a one of a kind restaurant, perfect for Sunday brunch. Fine dining indoors or al fresco.

David Burke Kitchen (SoHo)
23 Grand Street (Thompson St & 6th Ave)
A glass-enclosed tree house bar and bi-level outdoor space like none other in the city. Outdoor space features a 14-seat open air chef's table and private cabanas. Try the Green Vegetable Terrine and the Brick Chicken.

Il Gattopardo (Midtown West)
33 West 54th Street (5th & 6th Ave)
Ivy-draped garden with rustic classics from Naples. Homemade cavatelli and additional artisanal pastas.

The Grocery Restaurant (Brooklyn)
288 Smith Street
A 30-seat storefront mom & pop restaurant with an intimate backyard garden. Inspired dishes include Arctic Char and Broccoli Rabe. If there's room for dessert, taste their Chocolate Fig Cake with Coconut Ice Cream.

Home (West Village)
20 Cornelia Street (Bleecker & W 4th St)
Old-fashioned American comfort food. Think gooey Mac and cheese and gravy soaked meatloaf. Owner/chefs also own the Shinn Estate Vineyards in Mattituck, Long Island.

Palma (West Village)
28 Cornelia Street (Bleecker & W 4th St)
A beautiful garden with ivy-colored walls, fresh herbs and flowers... a true place to relax and dine. Palma is an organic Italian restaurant. Pastas are superb; try the Pappardelle allo Spezzatino d'Agnello.

Vinegar Hill House (Brooklyn)
72 Hudson Avenue
Small town America makes it big in the dining scene!  The restaurant is named for its neighborhood... a gentrified area of Belgium blocked streets, lining the Brooklyn Navy Yard, just north of DUMBO.  The food and ambiance are a perfect match in this setting. I highly recommend the Fennel Salad and Waffle Pork Chop.  Top the meal off with a cookie plate that's meant to be shared!

Waverly Inn & Garden (West Village)
16 Bank Street (at Waverly Pl)
This restored 1920's tavern allows for ample celebrity sightings in its clubby frescoed interior, or its leafy city-chic garden with high glass ceilings.
