Greetings!
I was chatting with a friend the other day about labors of love and I remembered the wise words that I shared in the title section above. As the day of thanks draws near, I think of all those who have shown me so much love, support and encouragement through a year of great "ups" and very tough "downs". I am very thankful to all those who have helped me along the way. I am thankful for my ability to pull through the toughest of times with a lot of grace. And I am very grateful to be able to share my knowledge and experience with you.
Over the last couple of months, many things that made up my life and routine have ended; it's like the universe pushed a big reset button forcing me to re-think and re-organize my life. I have approached this with a very positive attitude knowing that the universe wants to guide me in a new direction, hopefully, one that is filled with growth and abundance. You see, not all change is bad. Rumi said "...do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?"
The changes we make when we are ill do not result in a normal life; they are just modifications we are forced to make to adapt to a more restricted way of living. What happens is we get so used to that sub-optimal way of living that we start considering it normal. Any other changes that move us forward in a more positive, healing direction are seen as unsettling to that so-called "normal" way of life. In this issue's feature article, "Are You Ready for Positive Change?", I highlight to you how massively different the changes are that come about because of illness and wellness...they are very different! I will give you examples of small changes that can be quite enjoyable and healing and that you can start integrating into your life as soon as Thanksgiving is over!
As a bonus, I have prepared a handout with suggestions for decadent desserts that are full of healing goodness and that you can whip up in less than 5 minutes! This way, I wouldn't feel guilty encouraging you to eat all the dessert that you want!

I will be sharing important information with you about a webinar I will be holding in January on 'What Triggers Your Flares'. I will announce the date in my December newsletter and on my facebook page.
The goal of this FREE webinar is to help you make choices that strengthen your immune system by enabling you to identify what's causing it to be weak. To find out more details or to register in advance, send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com.
In the meantime, if you have any questions on how to manage your flare-ups during the holiday season, feel free to e-mail me and we can talk about how we can get you feeling healthier, happier and more energized.
A very big "Welcome" to all of the new readers who have joined my newsletter list since last month! You're going to love the inspiration you will find here. Enjoy! If you know someone who suffers from chronic illness or is the parent of a child or young adult who suffers from chronic illness, please forward this newsletter to them. It is very rewarding to be able to share information with others, especially when that information can help change their lives for the better.
I hope your Thanksgiving holiday is filled with love. Safe travels if you are commuting and happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Do you know someone who has suffered from the same symptoms as you - severe swelling, pain that shows up unannounced, difficulty moving, fatigue, depression and stiffness - and has told you they've made simple changes to their diet and lifestyle that have helped them live better lives? Maybe they eliminated dairy.... Or, was it gluten? You wish someone would tell you what to do because you don't know where to start, how to change or if it will work.
I want to help you get to the bottom of why you (or your child) are feeling tired, sick and symptomatic all the time. I'm going to share it on a COMPLIMENTARY webinar that's taking place after the New Year. I will help you:
- Understand all pieces of the puzzle (the triggers) that put your immune system at risk
- Identify the piece that you've been neglecting and how it's causing the symptoms you're experiencing
- Understand why what you put in your body helps manage autoimmune disease
- Figure out the strategy that works for you and your body so you can get to optimal health
To find out more or to register, send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com.
I can't wait to share this information with you!
If you have a friend who also suffers from Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis or another autoimmune disease, kindly let them know about this webinar. I would love to help them, too. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com.

| Feature Article: Are You Ready for Positive Change? |
|
Illness forces change - We start visiting doctors. We take meds that may or may not have an effect on our symptoms and may even create other side effects resulting in appointments with a panel of specialists and additional prescriptions. Sounds familiar?
Enter Healing - We cannot heal an illness without changing some of those lifestyle patterns and behaviors that may have contributed to the illness: overwork, stress, indulging in sugary foods and bad fats, etc... No one likes change - whether that change is positive or negative. Better the devil we know, so we stick to what's familiar even if that means enduring difficulties we could easily rid ourselves of. Often, we know exactly what changes we need to make to heal but we put them off because illness becomes comfortable. With illness, we may experience a level of concern and attention from others that we may not otherwise receive. All this wonderful care and attention can subconsciously deter us from wanting to get well. Parting with the pain would mean giving up a whole way of living; sometimes, giving up an identity. So we unconsciously sabotage our own healing process rather than make positive change.
The truth is the changes required for healing are not so frightening, difficult or painful. They may actually be pleasant especially if you make them a natural part of your life! For example:
- Slowing down, taking on less to-dos
- Scheduling more "me" leisure time, I call them "dates" with myself
- Getting into a regular exercise routine
- Having regular massages and
- Eating healthful foods
Change never happens overnight! It requires small, gradual steps, some persistence and a vision of all the great things that you will accomplish with your life if you just take that first step.
So, ask yourself honestly:
- What motivation do you have for staying ill?
- What motivation do you have for healing?
- What dreams do you have for your life?
- Are you willing to walk away from being ill, helpless and depressed?
- Do you wish to make fun plans for the future that you've not dared to dream possible?
- Are you ready for positive change?
Whether or not you are willing to go through and endure change is a personal choice and a matter of priority. I appreciate that there can be fear associated with change. You may fear failing or not being able to go out and enjoy the same foods as your friends. You may fear that it's too expensive to eat healthy (bonus: many of my clients find that there are affordable ways to eat healthy, fresh foods like using farmer's markets)
However, what if you succeed?
What if you change and things start getting better? What if you feel better when you wake up in the morning? What if you have more energy and stamina to play with your children? What if, over time, you reduce your dependency on expensive medications and their side-effects?
My question to you is: How is being stuck in sickness serving you? Would you rather stay stuck or start having a different, more positive and inspirational story?
I want you to have a different story!
Believe me, I understand that there are physical, psychological, relational and spiritual challenges that you have to deal with on a daily basis. That is why I have designed my health coaching programs to allow change to happen in a practical, enjoyable way that gradually enhances the quality of your everyday life without creating overwhelm. Together, we will flip the pain on its head using it, instead, as a "guiding light" to focus our attention on the positive changes you need to make.

Rana "didn't pressure me, but she did encourage me to learn how to listen to and connect with my body. She also provided some valuable hints and tips that made everything just a little bit easier...although, as she told me often, *I* was the one who was doing the work and making the changes. The last thing I needed at the time was pressure. I did need a lot of support and encouragement though, which is what I got."
