Yoga Teachers at Krishna Das Kirtan
Greetings!

Happy Halloween!

I'm so excited to share with you that I've graduated from Yoga school a couple of weekends ago. This is a picture of me with my yoga teachers, fellow yoga teacher graduates and Krishna Das after his concert. As you can also see, Live HEALthfully has a brand new logo to compliment a brand new website that will be launched in the next couple of months!

When I sat down to write this newsletter, I thought to myself what do Halloween and chronic illness have in common? Definitely scary stories...the ones you tell yourself and others about how sad, lonely and horrible life is. If you're tired of those stories and desperately wanting to leave them behind, read on. In this issue's feature article 'Are You Ready to Get Unstuck?', I will teach you how to leave those stories behind so you can feel happier about the real you that's hiding in there.

I will be sharing important information with you in November on What Triggers Your Flares.  This is a COMPLIMENTARY webinar that's taking place on Wednesday, November 20th at 8.00 p.m. EDT / 5.00 p.m. PDT.  Click here or send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com to register and I'll be sure to send you all the details.

As a treat, I prepared a hand out for you on simple tricks that can help you perform tasks with greater ease and, as a result, reduce your pain.

A very big "Welcome" to all of the new readers who have joined my newsletter list since last month! You're going to love the inspiration you will find here. Enjoy! If you know someone who suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis or Multiple Sclerosis or is the parent of a child or young adult who suffers from either condition, please forward this newsletter to them. It is very rewarding to be able to share information with others, especially when that information can help change their lives for the better.

Look after yourself !

Sincerely,

Rana Ghaoui

What Triggers Your Flares?

Do you know anyone who suffers from the same symptoms that you do - severe swelling and pain that shows up unannounced, difficulty walking and moving around, fatigue, depression, and stiffness? Do you know anyone who has told you they've made simple changes to their diet that have helped them live better lives - maybe they eliminated dairy....Or, was it gluten? You wish someone would tell you what to do because you don't know where to start, how to change or if the changes will work.

I want to help you get to the bottom of why you (or your child) are feeling tired, sick and symptomatic all the time. There are lots of problems with flare ups - and there is a simple solution.

I'm going to share it on a COMPLIMENTARY webinar on November 20th at 8.00 p.m. EDT / 5.00 p.m. PDT where I will help you:

  • Understand all the pieces of the puzzle (the triggers) that put your immune system at risk
  • Identify the piece that you've been neglecting and how it's causing the symptoms you're experiencing
  • Understand why what you put in your body helps manage autoimmune disease
  • Figure out the strategy that works for you and your body so you can get to optimal health

To register, click here or send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com and I will send you all the details you need to access the webinar.

Read this out loud

"Fears no longer have authority over my spirit. I am capable of healing anything."

Feature Article: Are You Ready to Get Unstuck?

How many of those questions do you answer with a "yes"?

  • Does your illness make you feel like you're a victim?
  • Do you feel more empowered when your story sounds worse than someone else's?
  • Do you make excuses for why you're not doing more positive things with your life?
  • Are you part of a support group that requires you to be in pain to join and where the words "hope" and "healing" can get you kicked out?

It's normal to carry a victim within. Actually, it's part of the human psyche. It's, also, ok to express the pain and fear that illness brings, but you want to avoid falling into the trap of constantly speaking pain. It's great to seek out a support system that provides a comfort zone, but you want to avoid bonding with those who never challenge you to be more than your pain and who see your healing as a threat to your bond.

The more you cling onto pain and the more you surround yourself with those who will only allow you to be in pain, the more you feed your victim. Of course, there's a lot of power in being a victim: It's a "Get Out of Jail Free" card, a permission to lead a life of minimum expectation and limited responsibility. I, once, did not pack my medications for a trip "knowing" that someone would pack them for me, "because I am so sick." They didn't...nor should they have. Packing my medication was my responsibility; it was and is up to me to take responsibility for my life.

When you are married to your illness, your consciousness is always focused on weakness and never on recovery. To put it in Halloween terms: it's like keeping the dead alive. It takes an enormous amount of energy that drains your life force and makes you depressed.

  1. Pay attention to how many thoughts you have each day that are painful. Write them down so you can physically see them, recognize them when they come up and see the damage they cause to your spirit and your body
  2. Ask yourself honestly "Is it something that I believe or want to believe? That I will never be better than I am today?", "Besides the sympathy of some people, what does the "victim" get me?"
  3. Create a new vocabulary to help you "outgrow your illness". You want to feel that you are larger and more powerful than your illness When someone asks you how you are, try your best to give them a positive answer; make that your default setting
  4. Finally, the tip that has worked wonders for me: Meet your victim face to face. When you're feeling down and out, close your eyes, focus on those feelings and try to remember other situations where you have felt the exact same way. This will help you recognize clearly the root cause or the context in which those feelings appear. More often than not, the feelings are related to an incident from your past that you have built into a "story" or a "tape" and that you replay again and again

When you stay stuck, you stand in your own way and you block your own transformation. The only way to get out is to go in. Find the courage to look inside and confront your victim. This is where the loving support of friends and family along with professional help becomes most effective - it creates a system that makes the journey less daunting and encourages you to find your way back up to the light.

I would be honored to support you on your journey. Send me an e-mail to rana@live-healthfully.com to schedule a HEALth Breakthrough session and we'll get you started!

"The webinar series on "Strengthen Your Immune System" was like a shot of positive energy for me. It really helped me see clearly what I needed to do to control my RA symptoms. I knew that I needed to make changes but wasn't completely sure what they were. Rana presented it in a streamlined way what I needed to do - taught me the importance of striking a balance between primary food and secondary food and even addressed my concerns about day to day nutrition requirements.

At the end of the webinar series, I felt I was more aware, focused and definitely on the right path to controlling my illness and taking charge of my health. Rana educated me, motivated me and inspired me; and I thank her from the bottom of my heart!"
