FEBRUARY STORY TIMES
Registration for Story Times starts Jan. 18th.
Immerse your little one in an interactive, early literacy learning experience at story time for babies or toddlers!

Ms. Heide has revamped story time a little bit to better fit your needs. There are still two separate Monday morning sessions - Rhyme and Read for infants ages 6-23 months and Toddler Time for 2-year-olds. Starting in February, the Monday evening session is for all young ones ages 6 months to three years old. Learn more about story times and more on our web page for parents.

Registration begins Monday, January 18th and is open until the first story time on Monday, February 1. You can register online, in person or over the phone.
FROM THE FRIENDS

A monthly update from the Friends of Shorewood Public Library

The Friends' Board of Directors was delighted last month to present its Volunteer of the Year Award to FOSL Secretary Jeanne Sacken.

Jeanne has served on the board for seven years, and as secretary for the last four. A professional writer and photographer, she uses her considerable literary skill to write up the proceedings of the Friends' monthly meetings.

Jeanne's contributions go beyond her role as secretary. From June 2013 to February 2015, as chair of FOSL's Nominating Committee, she oversaw the recruitment of most of the current board members. She also served on the Shorewood Reads 2015 Steering Committee, and chaired an Ad Hoc Committee on donations to the library, resulting in the Friends establishing and funding three "legacy" collections.

But perhaps most importantly, Jeanne is a smart, thoughtful, congenial, and hardworking board member whose input often influences board decisions, and who helps the Friends do all it can to ensure that the Shorewood Library remains a vital, essential part of village life.

Contact the Friends with questions, or to volunteer, at: [email protected].
YOUR NEXT FAVORITE BOOK (or movie)
Recommendations from Shorewood Library staff! For even more recommendations, follow our staff blog and explore our curated booklists (genres, topics, read-alikes and more).

If you're looking for a refreshing mystery to distract you from January, Emily recommends this series opener set in Laos after the Communist revolution in the late 70s.
Lisa recommends this graphic novel which will take you back to 1970's New York via the recollections of Benjy Melendez, a former street gang member who was instrumental in forming the brief alliance between street gangs that led to a period of peace and the birth of hip-hop.
The Land of Dreams
by Vidar Sunstol

If you're wondering what northern Minnesota is like then Hayley recommends the first title in Sundstol's
Minnesota Trilogy. "Having spent most of my life up north, I can say that  Sundstol captures the area precisely!"
