Adult Winter Reading Program
Read away your winter blues!
January 5 - March 13

Read Away Your Winter Blues...
Sign up and participate in our first adult winter reading program!
You may be familiar with our youth and teen summer reading programs, but now we're starting one just for adults. Running January 5th through March 13th, adults are invited to warm up with book for the chance to win cool prizes. So, try a new book or re-read a favorite, and let us reward you.

How it works:
1. Pick up a reading log at the Shorewood Library.
2. Read three books (audiobooks count!) of your choice.
3. Write a short review of one of the titles.
4. Return completed log to be entered in prize drawings.

A special thanks to the Friends of the Shorewood Library for providing support for this program!

Want free Bucks tickets? Read!
Annual Bucks Reading Challenge starts today
Students in 1st through 8th grade can now sign up at the library to read their way to a FREE Milwaukee Bucks game!

Thanks to generous support from the Bucks, Northwestern Mutual Foundation, and Milwaukee County Federated Library System, kids have to read just 500 pages by Feb. 27 to earn a voucher for a Bucks ticket. A little more reading goes a long way: by reading 750 pages, kids get entry in two prize drawings in addition to their ticket. It's an easy way to encourage reading during the long winter months! Sign up now at an information desk.

More, please!
Lots and lots of child & family programs offered in 2015
Based on popular demand, Ms. Heide will offer Pop in and Play twice a month in January and March. To keep your little one busy on the other days of the week, there's always ongoing registration for Preschool Story Hour (3 & 4 year olds), February's Toddler and Lapsit story times, and monthly Family Fun Craft Nights, too.

In addition, Lego Club will meet twice a month starting tomorrow, Thurs., Jan. 8th. Kids in first grade and up can come build and play the first AND third Thursdays every month! And you'll be home in time for dinner: Lego Club will now run from 4-6 p.m. not until 6:30.

Enjoy!

From the Friends
A monthly update from the Friends of Shorewood Public Library

Lofton Named Shorewood Library Volunteer of the Year

Susan Lofton has made a powerful impact on the Shorewood Library and Village of Shorewood since joining the Friends of the Library Board in April 2012. She was honored at the Friends' Annual Meeting with the 2014 Shorewood Library Volunteer of the Year Award.

Shortly after joining the board, Susan chaired the Gala for the 100th Anniversary of the Library and the Tenth Anniversary of the new building. She handled this enormous task with hard work and attention to detail. The gala featured delicious food, wonderful historical documentation and touching reminiscences. In 2013, Susan was one of three board members who revised the Friend's by-laws, a painstaking task. Susan's biggest accomplishments, however, have been as chair of the Membership Committee and now the Friends' Membership Coordinator. Susan has increased the membership by nearly 60% in the past year and she continues to identify more potential members! Susan has also revamped our membership procedures, keeping impeccable records and ensuring that all members receive renewal notices in a timely fashion.

Board president, Priscilla Pardini, said: "Susan, we are honored to count you among the members of the Friends' board of directors, and delighted that your name will be enshrined on the Friends' Volunteer of the Year plaques."

Read More in the New Year

If one of your resolutions for 2015 is to read more, consider joining a book group. The Friends are exploring interest in a new evening book group featuring guest leaders like our own librarians. Email us at the address below if you would like more details.

Thank a Librarian

The Friends of the Shorewood Library thank the staff for their ongoing energy, insights and commitment to serving our community. 2014 was a year of many changes and accomplishments. Throughout it all, the staff worked hard to make the Shorewood Library vital to the Shorewood community. Please join us by thanking our staff on your next visit to the library!
