Greetings!

We're so lucky to be living in Southern California. The beautiful weather constantly inspires us to get up, get out and move! The Center's physical therapists can help you with the proper mechanics of motion to avoid injury and improve performance. And if you're recuperating from an injury, illness or surgery, our Pilates instructors can help you.

We're also inspired by the wonderful physicians and organizations in our community and hope you will be too.

Please consider forwarding this newsletter to a friend or telling someone about us.  We also invite you to visit our website and Facebook page.

To your health!

The Mechanics of Motion
Prevent injury and improve performance

Mechanics of Motion
If you plan on stepping outside to walk or run, allow our physical therapists to teach you the right 'mechanics of motion'. With the proper technique, you can avoid or recover from injury and improve performance. Here are a few things to consider to help reduce strain on joints and overuse of muscles:

● Right degree of flexion in your knees and elbows
● Posture is important ● Appropriate range of motion ● Correct stride length ● Proper rhythm or cadence   ● Coordination between upper and lower body

Our physical therapists can identify muscle imbalances and improper joint alignments. We will conduct a detailed evaluation, which includes an analysis of gait, foot alignment, upper body strength and hip and spine alignment.

With an adjustment of running or walking technique and correction of imbalances and mis-alignments, the therapist will get you on your feet so that you can walk and run efficiently and safely, as your body allows.

Contact us to request an evaluation of your movement patterns before you start a walking or running regimen. We can also create a rehabilitation program if you are currently experiencing any discomfort while walking or running, or are injured. Your body deserves the right kind of care and we are here to help you on your journey.

Pilates Method for Rehab
More than an exercise program

What makes the Pilates Method and equipment truly unique is its design to challenge the body while at the same time supporting it.
This makes Pilates ideal for rehabilitation after illness or injury.

Whether you're looking to recuperate from illness or injury or to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle as you grow older, Pilates can be the solution.

Pilates is often recommended for pre- and post-operative patients. After hip or knee replacement, it's an excellent way to get moving again. Pilates is also a perfect choice for those recuperating from back injuries, as it strengthens abdominal muscles that are crucial to supporting the back.

And it opens the door for many people who believed chronic problems would prevent them from ever enjoying the benefits of exercise again. Pilates allows you to exercise without fighting gravity, compressing joints or straining muscles from excessive repetition.

One of the keys to benefiting from Pilates is closely supervised, expert instruction. Our certified Pilates instructors are trained not only in fitness, but in health and rehabilitation. They work with you to overcome the challenges of illness, injury or any physical limitation you might have. Call or email us to make your appointment with Cathy Sweetman, John Sweetman or Deborah Golden.
