Yarn Spotlight
Can you hear the steel drums?  This yarn is Calypso and when you start working with it, you very well may be lulled to an island oasis with steel drums serenading you as you knit and crochet!  This self striping, bulky weight yarn will work up beautifully with a simple garter stitch pattern!  It's fast, fun and vibrant and with 184 yards per skein, you can use just one! Check out this week's yarn spotlight!
Pattern of the Week
As previously mentioned, we have Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Silk + in stock and it is ideal for shawls and lace work!  Ishbel can be done in two different sizes and it makes the perfect equation....Serenity Silk + Ishbel pattern is the ideal way to work in some simple lace repeats, create a useful garment as the nights get cooler and show off both your handiwork and the gorgeous yarn!  That's an A+ in math as we see it! It has been a popular choice on ravelry with a lot of variations too!  This week's Pattern of the Week!

We're BAAAACK!!!  A little bit more rested, a little further along with our latest projects and ready to show off!  What exactly we decide to show off has yet to be determined, but we are geared up for a new season of great yarns, phenomenal patterns and all kinds of exciting visitors!  Can you tell how pumped we are at Knit-a-Bit?

Get it?  Pumped as in weights?  These are knitted barbells!!!
Speaking of new....

This box was awaiting our return....this is Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Silk + and we even got to customize colors!!!  It is made up of all of life's luxurious fibers; merino, cashmere and silk!  We cannot wait to play with this yarn and we strongly encourage you to do the same!  Shawls remain one of the hottest thing in the fiber world, topping the pattern charts on ravelry.com and this yarn is PERFECT for whatever shawl pattern you choose.....that's the hardest part!  We have the yarn, you pick the pattern!
Did you say Tunisian?

Yes, as in Tunisian crochet!  This intriguing technique is often referred to as a combination of crochet and knitting....using an elongated hook and the elements of knitting, a "woven like" fabric is created and it is beautiful!

Carolyn Hanson, a local knitter and crocheter will be teaching a class on this very technique to create a fabulous bag of her own design!  The class will meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. for three weeks starting September 25th and concluding on October 9th.  The class fee is $65.00 which includes the pattern and a 20% discount on any supplies purchased at Knit-a-Bit for the class!  Give us a call to sign up for this great opportunity!  908.301.0053

Get the calendars ready!

The class schedule is so close to completion but we can tell you a few things!  We will be kicking off the "learning season" with aShibui Knits trunk show and a Shibui Mix Party  on Saturday September 28th featuring all of the mixtures of yarns and patterns to create the great pieces in the trunk show!  If you haven't worked with any of these yarns, don't deny yourself any longer!

The following weekend on Saturday, October 5th we will welcome Barbara Kreuter who will be teaching the techniques used to create the Frequency Cowl! This cowl is really a lot of fun to knit combining intarsia, mitered squares and stockinette (and that's speaking from experience!) The class will be from 10:00 - 3:00 with lunch!  The $95.00 fee will include the pattern, 20% discount on yarn purchase and a yummy lunch! Give us a call if you want to learn more!

Also look forward to a visit on December 7th from Amy Herzog, author of Knit to Flatter who will be teaching a class on how to make your handknit garments fit to flatter your shape!  Be forewarned, she is a NEPatriots fan too! Details will be announced soon.....more "celebrity" teachers will be making appearances in the very near future!
Busy bees...

A while ago in conversation, we happened to mention to Cheryl, "jack of ALL trades extraordinaire" that it would be nice to have another pegboard wall to display hanks of yarn.....well, lo and behold, I walked in to find the beginning of that wall!  We will be doing a little rearranging so that we can show off beautiful hanks of yarn on Cheryl and Ted's newly constructed pegboard wall! THANK YOU!!!
If you've been in town lately, you may have noticed that the outside sign that we change currently says, "Summer may be winding down, but at Knit-a-Bit, we are winding yarn year round!"  This is so true and we are still a little bit in the summer mode, but that will soon be changing!

Pam and Laura will resume their respective knitting groups very soon and the calendar here and every where else will be in very full swing!  Before you know it, holidays will be upon us (Halloween candy is in full display in stores!!!) and scrambling to get gifts done will begin!  We are here to help!  The class schedule will be offering some workshops that will teach you the necessary skills to get the job done!

In the meantime, during the "quiet before the storm", stop in, catch up and let us help you with your fiber needs!  Don't forget the coupon offer featured in last week's newsletter for a free gadget with purchases of $15.00!!!  We can't wait to see you!
