Knit a Bit LLC NewsletterSunday, December 2, 2012

A milestone is defined as "An important event, as in a person's career, the history of a nation, or the advancement of knowledge in a field; a turning point."  Although we don't make national news for the history of a nation, we are pretty confident that we fit the rest of the description!

This is as an important event to us as anything else in our lives; it is our careers and it is something that we both truly love doing!  We have definitely learned a lot in the past ten years, not just in the fiber world (or field) but our ability to share the passion of knitting and crocheting to all of you.  We could not have done this without any of you and we are eternally grateful.

This truly is a turning point for Knit-a-Bit.  A point that we will use as a pivot to improve, enhance and continue to do what we love to do; providing a niche in the town of Westfield where people can feel comfortable whatever their passion may be.

We wish us a very Happy Birthday, to applaud all of you and want to raise a toast for many more years ahead!

The Guest List.....

We are so thrilled to be hosting such "famous" people in the knitting and crochet world.

On Tuesday 12/4 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Nicky Epstein will be at Knit-a-Bit to wish us a Happy Birthday! and sign her numerous books, including her latest, KNITTING IN CIRCLES which just so happens to be this week's Book of the Week!

We love Tahki Stacy Charles yarns and you have the opportunity to meet the creative mind behind the great yarns!  Stacy Charles himself will be presenting a fashion show featuring yarns that we carry and will give his insight, inspirations and input to you!  He will be at Knit-a-Bit on Thursday 12/6 from 4:00 - 6:00 for a little wine, good cheer and beautiful garments!

A favorite collection of patterns at Knit-a-Bit is Coco Knits!  After literally stalking her, Julie Weisenberger, designer extradonaire, will be showing off her line and offer her expertise to create these awesome garments! She will be at Knit-a-Bit on Saturday, 12/8 from 10:00 - 4:00 p.m. all the way from California! (I have a feeling that I will be adding to my growing Coco Knits collection!)

Considered a creative genius in the fiber industry, we are honored to welcome
Norah Gaughan from Berroco yarns to Knit-a-Bit!  Her unique style is displayed in her numerous designs that highlight the best that Berroco yarns has to offer!  She will be bringing a number of these phenomenal pieces (including a little Spring preview) onSunday, 12/9 from 10:00 - 1:00

Pop Quiz!

A little innovation....

Being surrounded by yarn and colors, you can't help to be inspired to do something with any variety of yarn.  Ringo from Tahki is one of those yarns that has the ability to really shine when put in the right place.  Perhaps this is it's moment to sparkle.  By combining it with Abuelita Thick and Thin and being a little creative, I wrote up this pattern to create a puffy, warm cowl that can be worn in a variety of ways.  Here's the link to the pattern that was written as I knit.  Octopus' Garden Cowl...a little play on the Ringo as in Starr yarn!

Gadgets to be had!

Not being a sock knitter has it's disadvantages, but even I had a tough time not to swoon over this gadget!  These adorable purple and green sheep are actually double pointed needle stoppers!  It could have been the color combination or the "sheer" cuteness of the ewe, but this is a must have gadget for anyone that uses the dpn's on a regular basis!

BAA!!!

Wonderful Wellies!

We received a little package of pattern postcards on Thursday from the Erika Knight distributor.....I took the pattern and the yarn home, and VOILA!  Furry Wellie Toppers!

This adorable pattern requires one skein each of  Erika Knight Maxi Wool and Fur Wool!  These are knit flat, so doing two at a time is a real time saver and they look adorable on these boots if I do say so myself...yes, they are my boots!

Book of the Week!

In honor of one of our esteemed birthday guests this week, our featured book is Knitting in Circles by Nicky Epstein. You will not believe what you can make with knitted circles!

One circle can become a stylish hat or an adorable shrug. Two, and you have a unique handbag or cover-up. Knit more circles and you can make show-stopping scarves, capes, sweaters, afghans-even a stunning lace dress. Amazing!

Only Nicky Epstein, could dream up these innovative garments and accessories that all start with a simple shape. In her bestselling book Knitting Block by Block, Nicky used the humble block to create outstanding fashion, but that was just the beginning. Now she takes on a new challenge and shows you how to make a statement with circles.

Mix and match to your heart's content with 100 circles and 20 inspiring projects that feature everything from cables to rich colorwork, delicate lace, and over-the-top embellishments in Nicky's signature style. You will find step-by-step techniques on how to knit circles, both in the round and flat, plus expert guidance on customizing the projects, with unique cut-and-paste circle templates to design your own styles. You will never look at circles in the same way.

Stop in this week and pick up your copy of Knitting in Circles @ 20% percent off and as added bonus you can have Nicky herself sign your copy when she is in our store on Tuesday from 4-6 pm. We have plenty of copies available so come on down. Happy Knitting!

We did it!!!

We successfully obtained our goal and collected 100 handknit bears!  You can be proud of the fact that the bears that you so generously knit and crocheted will put a smile on an ill child's face!  We couldn't be more excited about this amazing accomplishment especially in the same week as our birthday!

If you still have a bear, we will gladly accept it and make sure that it gets delivered!

We have already agreed to do this campaign again!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and those of the children!

It was such an honor to have Annie Modesitt come to our store.  For those of you that took the class, we hope you enjoyed her visit as much as we did!  She has been a good friend to Knit-a-Bit and we were thrilled to have her wish us a Happy Birthday in person!  She is a phenomenal teacher and an amazing person!  Thank you Annie!!!

There is no pre registration required for any of  the events that we will be hosting this Birthday Week and we hope to see a lot of you!  This celebration wouldn't be possible without your continued support and we want to thank you in person!  Stop by, get a book signed, see a fun garment, get yourself some yarn or just have some cake!  Birthday Event Schedule

Pam WILL be knitting this Monday from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. and she is very excited to see a lot of familiar faces!  No reservations are required!
