HEADED TO TEXAS!

"I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could."

Howdy Friends,

Last spring I called my son, Karma, with a proposition. "Hey son, how would you like to take a road trip with your ol' mom to Texas in October?" I held my breath and waited for his response. The last time we'd taken a road trip together, just the two of us, Karma was only 8 years old. Now, thirty plus years later, he was no longer a kid. Instead, he was a successful business man traveling and working for a large, well-known corporation. My mind took me back to that first road trip we'd taken so many years ago. On a whim, I'd packed our bags and we headed west in my little used 240-Z Datsun - the one with the cool T-roof. For weeks, we visited places like New Mexico, Arizona, and even Vegas, to name a few. Meanwhile, Karma had the worst case of motion sickness I'd ever seen and it lasted the entire trip! Over and over, he kept saying, "Pull over, mom. I think I'm going to be sick." Instead, I handed him a left-over McDonald's bag and said, "There's no time to pull over. We've got places to go and things to see. Ready, set, go!" Now, while I waited for his response, I silently prayed that my son would not remember our last road trip too vividly!

A few seconds later, and to my surprise, Karma replied, "Sounds like fun, mom. Give me a few minutes to see if I can reschedule some of my meetings." The minutes ticked away like hours. At last, he called back, "We're on!" My shouts of joy could be heard from here to the Lone Star state, "Yahoo, and Praise the Lord!" And then, like most moms, having waited till just the right moment, I put the final icing on the cake, "Oh yeah, there's one more thing, son. You have to promise me you will wear cowboy boots!"

In just a few short hours, Karma and I will be headed to Texas. We'll be visiting Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Besides plans to take in some rodeo and bull-riding events, we've got our tickets in hand for Clinton Anderson's first-ever "2015 Ranch Rally" in Stephenville, about a 70 mile drive from Dallas. I'm looking forward to learning more about good horsemanship, and touring the DownUnder Ranch. We're also looking forward to visiting McQuay Stables, home to some of the world's greatest reining horses, in Tioga, Texas. You know me - I've packed my spurs just in case the Lord leads me straight to my next equine partner! And of course, we plan to visit all the tack and saddle shops we can find along the way. Last, but not least, we've marked our maps and wouldn't dare miss the famous Hard 8 BBQ restaurant and their delicious brisket! God willing, and the creeks don't rise, I'll be back in a few weeks with some pictures of our mother-son road trip, and a new newsletter. Until then, one things for sure, we're not taking any McDonald's bags along on this trip. And we've both got our cowboy boots on.

Ready, set, go!

Riding With Faith,

Susan
