 The Bible says...

"You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to inform you. The creeping things of the earth will give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation: there is not one such creature but will know that the hand of God has arranged things like this!"

 (Job 12: 7-9)

Finding

BALANCE

 in an

UN-BALANCED WORLD

Weight scale on the peak against heaven. Divine justice concept.

"A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight."

Proverbs 11: 1

The Bible speaks of balance concerning every subject imaginable, from how we live our life, and how we spend our money, to what we do with our time. Even our planet, earth, was created by God to exist in perfect balance within the universe. So, why does God care so much about balance? God cares about balance because it represents His order, His truth, and His justice. On the other hand, un-balance represents no order, no truth, and no justice. There is either balance or un-balance. Just a few extra grains of sand on a scale can tip the balance either way.

Everywhere we look, and everywhere we go today, things seem to be out of balance in the world. Even the popular cable news affiliate, Fox News, who advertises itself as "fair and balanced", seems to be somewhat perplexed at just how quickly things are changing on the world stage, and on the home-front. It doesn't matter what the subject is, whether it is moral or political, there seems to be no balance, i.e. no order, no truth, and no justice. In many ways, it's as if our entire planet has shifted on it's axis. And it is evident in the absence of standards and morality that we once held dear. As crazy as it sounds, to be un-balanced has become the fashionable new balance. And all the while, God is watching us, and waiting to see what we who are called by His name will do. Will we find our balance?

FINDING TRUE BALANCE

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

Proverbs 22: 6, ESV)

Horseback riding, lovely equestrian - little girl is riding a horse

Some of the best adult riders in the world are those who were taught how to find their balance and correctly "ride the center" of their horse when they were children.

There is no such thing as a good rider without good balance. When I first started showing my horses in AQHA western pleasure, my trainer reminded me over and over again, "Sit up and find your center!" I knew that he was telling me to sit straight and ride with correct balance. Because I hadn't grown up riding horses, and had never been trained how to ride with a balanced seat, I would often maintain my balance for a few laps around the arena, only to find myself slowly but surely slipping ever-so slightly to one side or the other, without even being fully aware of it. Of course, my trainer was fully aware. With eyes that never missed a thing, he had absolutely no tolerance for not sitting a horse properly, or in other words, riding without good balance. Why? Because he knew the dangers that lack of balance could bring about. He had even less tolerance for excuses or denials. Finally, I dropped all the excuses of having been a poor "horse-less child", and "fessed up" to my lack of balance, and determined that even if I had not been taught how to be a centered rider before, I would make up for any lost time now. And so I did. A few years and hundreds of rides later, I finally mastered the art of good balance.

Let's be real. Many of us didn't grow up in homes where we received the right kind of "training" to equip us for our future. Yes, our parents or caretakers may have done the best they knew how, and yet, we grew up lacking good balance in some areas of our life. You and I can never change our upbringing and training, or the lack thereof. But we can change our lives right now by making the correct decision to become a balanced adult, even in the midst of an un-balanced world. And how do we do that? We start by becoming "centered" in our thoughts. And how do we become centered (or balanced) in our thoughts? I'm glad you asked. Let's go deeper...

MAKE GOD'S WORD THE CENTER OF YOUR THOUGHTS

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything of praise, think about these things."

Philippians 4: 8, ESV)

Think Positive hand writing with a black mark on a transparent board

We often credit the world for telling us to "think positive". The fact is, God was the originator of the idea. When we choose to meditate on God's Word, and think on positive things in life, we are better able to live a "balanced" life, even in the midst of an un-balanced world.

If ever there was a time that we need to hear and to know God's Word, the time is now. I can't imagine the fear of turning on the daily news today and hearing about all the unrest and turmoil in the world, without having a biblical perspective and understanding. It is our knowledge of God's Word that keeps us balanced in an un-balanced World. As children of God, you and I can focus on what is true, honorable, and just, - even in the midst of falsehood, dishonor, and injustice. Why? Because our life and our thoughts are "centered" on God, and His righteousness. So, the question begs, "Are we to bury our heads in the sand, and pretend that evil is not all around us? Are we to ignore the un-balance that seems to exist everywhere in the world today?" The answer to both questions is

"Absolutely Not!"

We should neither bury our heads, nor ignore what is going on in the world today. In fact, some of you reading this may feel that you are called to be involved in the political arena in some capacity. I believe we need Godly men and women who are anointed for the job, and involved in the decision making process of our nation today as never before. But the truth remains. We can all acknowledge the state of affairs that the world is in, and even be an active participant in helping to bring about some needed changes. But we do not have to allow our minds to  "dwell" in the realm of negativity and despair like those who do not know that the Redeemer lives! We must guard our hearts, and keep our thoughts "centered" on what is true, and honorable, and just. If there is anything worthy of praise, the Bible tell us to think on those things. Why? Because God knows that when we think on those things, and when we stay "centered" on His Word, we will live a victorious and balanced life, even while we are living in the midst of an un-balanced world. Praise God!
