Susan Klaudt Horse Ministry -
You've Got Power |
"You've Got Power" is a short mini-teaching video that compares the bit in a horse's mouth and the power it has in helping to control the direction of the horse, with our tongue and the power it has in shaping the direction of our lives through the words we speak.
This video was taped back in the summer. Unfortunately, we had to scrap most of our teaching videos due to the excessive wind noise at our location. Although the wind is noticeable in parts of this video, it was one of the few that could be salvaged with edits. Look for a re-do of the power video in the future.
UPDATE:
We've now purchased a portable sound system that will pick up my voice via horseback from anywhere in the arena, so the quality of our videos should improve. We'll also be using a headset microphone from the oldy-goldy days of music concert ministry. That will free my hands up, not just in the saddle, but during ground work, too.
SO, HOW'S THAT WORKIN' OUT FOR YA?
Last week I decided to take our new sound system for a trial run. I saddled Samson up, put on the headset, and turned up the speaker volume full-blast. In a heartbeat, Sam thought he had died, gone to horse heaven, and was hearing loud voices out of little black boxes. When you think you've de-spooked your horse in every way possible, - think again!
After a short stint of some pretty impressive bronc riding (remember, anythings impressive at my age), and some crazy ear-flicking (my horse's ears, not mine), Sam finally figured out I was on his back, and not in the speakers. The glaring lesson for me here? To my chagrin, I have come to realize the hard, cold truth, - my rodeo days, if ever they were, are surely behind me now! Still, having survived this experience with my hiney miraculously never leaving the saddle, and my hat still on at the end of the ride, it was hard to deny the thrill, or hold back a little grin. Perhaps a line from an old country song says it best, "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!" Can I get a witness? If so, somebody shout out a big "Yee-haaa", uh, I mean a big "Amen"!
Suffice to say, while we continue to work out the kinks inherent in videoing "horse ministry", I'm learning some valuable stuff. What stuff? Stuff like how to hold my tongue, and instead, speak God's Word! And that, my friend, is real power!
Don't miss my hubby, and awesome musician, Kim Klaudt's sanctified blues guitar solo on the song "He's A Keeper" at the end of the "You've Got Power" video! The song is performed by the praise and worship team of Church Alive in Cleveland, TN, and on the CD titled "Combustible Praise".
ALL AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE CONGRESS 2012
We just returned from a week of camping out in the horse trailer at one of my favorite events of the year, the All American Quarter Horse Congress. The Congress is held each year in Columbus, Ohio. The event lasts the month of October, and is the nation's largest single-breed horse show. You can check them out on line.
Stalls are decked out with elaborate fronts in multiple horse barns at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
A quarter horse heaven, - more than 16,000 horses are shown in classes ranging from western pleasure, trail, and showmanship, to hunter under saddle and much more. And shopping, - did I mention the shopping? Trucks, trailers, boots, clothes, jewelry, furniture, etc., you name it, - it's at Congress!

Looks like the little guy has had all the shopping he can endure!
Did I mention awesome red trucks for sale at the Congress?
Oh yeah, and horse trailers for sale by the hundreds!
Yep, that's a horse on a treadmill. It's a tough life being a show horse!
The Congress also features the Congress Super Sale where some of the nations best horses go up for auction. This year, the top seller at $38,000 was a 2009 mare named R U Radical Chocolate by Radical Rodder and out of R U Hot Chocolate. All I can say is, - you should have seen her! At only 3 years old, she was an absolutely gorgeous mover with flat knees and sweeping footfall, - a born natural, and a western pleasure deluxe, for sure.
Chairs start to fill up several hours before the Congress horse sale.
The first horse enters the ring, and the auction is under way. This year's sale included the top blood lines in yearlings, colts and fillys, brood mares, geldings, and show winners. The sale began at 10:00 am and lasted until that night with more than 80% of consigned horses being sold.
Riders exercising and preparing their show horses in one of the many practice arena's at Congress. This goes on 24/7 for the month of October.
Finally, me and my 3 pound resident-diva chihuahua, Miss Magnolia (alias Magpie, or Maggie) taking a break amidst cowboy truck heaven at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
Well, that's it for now, friends. Hope you enjoyed the pics of Quarter Horse Congress, and especially the new teaching video. Until next time, remember - You've Got Power, and may God always bless you with the faith ride of your life!
